Hi

I recieved the beta copy of Vista 2 (Its the newest build) When i finish install and it restarts for the 3rd time, it jsut comes up with a black screen that says "Microsoft Windows VIsta Beta 2" and the build version on very bottom right hand corner. And i waited for an hour and still it didnt do anything. So i tried to restart and go into standby, It worked perfectly. But then i tried to restart and go back into normal mode, still gives me the same problem. I have tried to reinstall, and i get the same problem. When i get home today, i am going to try another hardrive and see hwo that works.

If i can, i will get ictures also if needed.

Thank you for the Help.

PS, The windows loading screen jsut displays the gray bar moving, it doesnt say anythign about vista, jsut a back screen and the scrolling "gray bar" And i know this is beta.

For some reason my sig is nto showing up for me. Here are the specs anyway.
AMD Athlon X2 +3800 | 2GB GEIL PC4000 | Dual SLi 7800 GTX 256MB | A8N-SLI Premium | 2x120GB SATA RAID 0 | Sound Blaster Audigy 2 | Antec P180 | PC Power & Cooling 510 SLi

I tried another hard drive and i still amd having the same problem.
Thank you

Hit F8 before boot and enable boot logging to see where it's hanging up.

This is what my boot logger looks like.

What Should i do about this?

Is there a separate AMD driver i need?

I am very sorry for the long post.

You might need a Vista version of the SATA RAID driver, not sure.

I'm running.....

AMD FX-60
ASUS A8N-SLI
7800 GTX

and I've had no issues installing it at all, and it runs like butter.

I did put it on a spare IDE drive on my system and not a SATA one though.

Yeah, thats what i am doing, i am running a spare IDE HDD i have. Is there a general website i can go to, to get Vista drivers for my X2 +3800 because it is saying the AMD K8 CPU failed to load. and a few others, i am installing the 7800GTXs in safe mode right now with the 88.61 forceware for vista 32bit.

The ACPI driver is failing to initialize. You might be able to go into safe mode, then device manager and then change the Computer from ACPI Uniprocessor (or ACPI Multiprocessor) to Standard PC. But Vista won't use one of the cores on your CPU if you do that.

Did you change any CMOS setup (BIOS) options to disable ACPI on your motherboard? And you might want to check for BIOS upgrades on the manufacturer's web site. That doesn't sound like normal behavior for a NF4 board. I have similar hardware (X2, NF4 chipset motherboard, Audigy) and the only device i had to install manually was the Audigy Vista driver.

But yeah, I had to load the nvidia device driver during installation to see the SATA drive I installed it onto.

I'll check that out, thank you for the help.

Now that i installed the NF4 Audio drivers it gives me this error now.

Did not load driver @oem1.inf,%nvaci.devicedesc%;NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio Codec Interface

I will look for BIOS updates and i will get back to you once i do that.
Thank you

Okay, so i updated to the lastest BIOS from ASUS and i still get the same problem. What else can i do? i realy want to use this OS.

Thank you

You'll probably have to bug Asus at this point to find out why ACPI fails to initialize. It's not a problem with the NF4 chipset. Did you try changing the computer type in device manager from ACPI MultiProcessor PC to Standard PC using safe mode like I suggested above?

This is one of the reasons I avoid Asus. I've had many Asus specific odd problems on different boards before finally giving up on them for good. /mild rant

Okay, would you care you elaborate?

I saw the location of it before under my device manager yesturday, but now that exact option isnt there. its ACPI x86 Based-PC, and there are no options to change it, how might i go about doing that?

i go into my BIOS, and it gives me an option to enable or disable ACPI, but it is grayed out, These are the options

1. ACPI Suspend Type [S1&S3] - Options are [S1 (POS)]
[S3 (STR)] [S1&S3]

2. ACPI APIC Support [Enable] - The other option is Disable, but the selection is grayed out.

Thank you

When i attempt to update the driver, it says it up to date, i dont understand what you exactly mean? i didnt think there was a "CPU Driver" for Vista. Please explain. What driver?

Make sure you tell it that YOU will pick what driver to install, dont let it go on auto.

I think the order of choices is like this.....

Update Driver Button
Don't look online (SP2 option I think, you may not get this one)
Install from a specific location
Don't search, I will choose the driver to install
Pick the driver

Good luck!

The issue at hand is, i dont know which driver to even download. I know how to install it, i jsut dont know where or what to get.

Thank you

Cory

Just go into the device manager and do the steps I listed, there's nothing you need to download, the drivers are built into Vista (and XP).

Look for the "Computer" device and follow those steps above.

Thank you so much, it worked perfectly, i am now in Windows Vista Beta 2 and in regular mode!

Thank you to all who helped.

Glad to hear it.

It may not be as quick and snappy, but at least you can mess with it now.
