Woodcrest in Apple?

I realize that a thread in the Apple forum on this topic has started but it seems like maybe the Intel forum is also an appropriate place to post. Apparently, the latest rumor has Apple using the Woodcrest processors in its upcoming desktop refresh.

Would there be a performance difference between systems using Woodcrest and Conroe processors in the area of games and multimedia such that it would be worth it to go with Apple hardware if other PC manufacturers use Conroe in their desktops?

Only for > 1 socket systems. It's too bad there's not a cheaper (as in regular DDR2 memory instead of FB DIMMs) MP chipset for Woodcrest.
