Hi all,

I'm planning on a new build, first since about two years ago.
Anyway, already have my 6400 and I think I finally decided on the P5B Deluxe.
Thinking about a lian-li case, but I had read sometime back when the first conroe's were out that some people were having issues with motherboards being installed upside down or something?

Was that all a rumor?
Should I be concerend at all about that?

Thanks

afaik most mobo heatpipes don't have wicks for condensate but rely on gravity to return it.
As such they tend to not work as well as designed for if upturned ...

Not an issue anymore.
I was worried about the same thing but I have the exact same MB, a 6600, and a Lian Li. No heat issues whatsoever.

Just the opposite as I understand it. I know in my experience , i have used 3 different ASUSU mobos that used heatpipes in my lian li with no issue.

I have the P5B mobo and just removed the heatpipe and used an after-market cooler on the NB. I have the Silverstone TJ06 case with upside down mobo config also. This is my first mobo with a heatpipe so I don't have a comparison but my NB was getting quite warm till I switched out the heatpipe.

notice that I didn't say that it wouldn't work but that it wouldn't work as well as designed for ... ;)

if you wanna run BTX with those heatpipes you can add a 40mm fan to the top of the NB sink and you'll be fine.. that's what I did for my p5wdh and it runs VERY cool..

upsidedown = BTX (wanna be BTX)
Wrong. It's still upside-down ATX. Heck, it doesn't even want to be BTX because the components are not laid out per BTX guidelines, even when the mobo is upside-dnw. Some people refer to it as WTX for some reason, but it's not even that.

ATX = http://www.formfactors.org/FFDetail.asp?FFID=1&CatID=1
BTX = http://www.formfactors.org/FFDetail.asp?FFID=12&CatID=1
WTX = http://www.pcguide.com/ref/case/formWTX-c.html

... and my Lian-Li PCV2000B has always, always been considered an ATX case, even though the mobo mounts upside-down.

(sorry, I tend to get a little nitpicky)
