Just got my 8800GTS today, weeeeee. How about a thread where we post about issues we're having in hopes of sharing fixes?

I've only begun to play games, but one issue with HL2, pics:

When some objects move to a distance, they kind of 'grey out'. No combination of settings seeing to fix it, between default or highest quality. I'm running it at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF (never drops below 75 FPS, btw). I've tried it with my GTS at default and at overclocked speeds. The game seems otherwise fine. I bet it's a driver issue, but a crappy one at that :( when do those new drivers come out?

I also noticed an issue with Quake 3, when I set the AA to anything higher than 4x, the game craps out and runs at like 20 FPS. I set it back to 4x it still does it. I have to set all the settings back to default, then put it back on 4x for it to be at it's normal 600-1000 FPS :)

System specs:

C2D E6600 @ 3.2GHz (400x8)
Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400
Asus P5B vanilla
EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS @ 600/900 (97.02 drivers)

Hmm - thats odd. Did you try disabling gamma corrected AA and see if that fixes it? I know there used to be a glitch with some objects being lit incorrectly with this feature enabled.

This seems to be a problem with shiny effects. Type mat_specular 0 and mat_bumpmap 0 in the console, they'll go away, but the shiny effects will be gone. Keep us updated on what it looks like.

Just tried it, no effect. Since it doesn't look like it's a problem with the settings, I'm going to delete the game content and reinstall.

EDIT: CS:S does have it, but to a lesser degree. objects have to be further away to gray out.

The gray out thing happens to me as well. Its just the drivers. Wait for a new driver release and hope for a fix. NFSCarbon also has a few glitches as well.. Those are the only two games I've experienced problems in with my 8800GTX. Hopefully it comes to Nvidia's attention and they fix it on the next round of driver releases.

Before you do that have you tried what I posted?

Too late, I missed your post. I don't want to turn off shiny things anyways, I'll just wait for the driver fix.

It happens to me and I have a 7800GT. My advice? Suck it up and be a man, stop whining.

The Half Life 2 fog/shadow issue is a known issue, in fact, it is explained in the release notes if you read them under Known Issues. It is actually an application issue and will have to be resolved via a Steam update.

Quitter. Way to be a man and show them who is boss. Give up if there is a problem, don't look for a simple solution.

Good to know. Thanks.

Yep, I experienced it when I began testing the G80 myself and promptly reported it to their driver team.

Their explanation was that it was simply doing a different implementation of fog and shadows on the G80, only an application update will fix it. They are working with Valve on it.

Yeah, by the tone of my original post, it's clearly evident that I was 'whining'.

OH GOD WHY DOESN'T THIS WORK PERFECTLY I DEMAND A FIX NOW

perhalps this is some form of a unified shader artifact? you do have it overclocked a little, why dont you put it back on stock settings first?

What app are you using to OC? Is 600 / 900 max that it's stable?

97.02 Control Panel and nTune. I just threw it on 600 / 900 the instant I installed it--it seems that pretty much all cards are able to hit this easily. I haven't tried pushing it yet.

It's already confirmed as an issue with the game, not the hardware/drivers.

I haven't "fine tuned" my 8800GTS (yet), but mine is easily stable at 625/1000. I've ran HL2, F.E.A.R., BF2142, Far Cry, 3dMark06 for 5-6 hours at a time, with NO issues, no lock ups, no artifacting, etc. I just ran 3dMark06 on 625/1000 and hit 8730. It seems to be pretty happy at that setting. It runs at 57c idle and under very heavy load, it hits around 63c. I would have expected the temps to climb higher under heavy load, so I am happy about that (its probably because of 5 fans blowing directly on it).

Yep, definitely gonna settle for inferior quality after dishing out 400 dollars. Good thinking!

call of juarez also has a really bad shadow issue. flickering and just all over the place.
it's also mention in the release notes though.
