All this while, I've been waiting to buy the 7900GTO or 7950GT, but while browsing Newegg, I just found the X1950XT, which is cheaper than both and seems to be a REALLY good deal. Someone tell me it's really worthit for 250$? (thats hte price on newegg)

I've got the x1950xt and it's a nice card. core overclocks from 625 to 662 and mem from 1800 to 1900 without errors, and the fan stays reasonably quiet.

Plus you can Fold with this card, and not with the nVidia ones. Though only when your system is really idle, there's an issue with some 256meg cards that causes display lag. Ahh, beta software... they're probably going to add in a switch to select the vram size.

I believe it is the 256mb cards that are $250, which will effect the resolution you can play fluidly in.

i tihnk he's saying you need to determine the resolution you will play at and that will give you a better idea of which card would be better for you.

The X1950XT is faster than the 7950GT, and about on par with the GTO, though slightly slower if the GTO is running at GTX speeds. I would say it's a better buy than the other two.

The X1950 is the fastest out of those cards, but at higher res a GTO may perform better do to the extra Ram. So it depends on your monitor and the res you like to play games on whether having more Ram would be worth it. IF you are used to playing games at 1024x768 or even 1280x1024, the X1950, if you want eye candy at 1600x1200, you would likely be better off with a 512mb card.

get the X1950XT......its significantly faster than the 7950GT 512mb. trust me, ive owned both. I wouldn't swap my X1950XT with any gf7 series card except perhaps the 7950gx2..

Where on earth did you get this?, the X1950Xt is substantially faster in nearly every benchmark I have seen than both the 7950gt and GTO.

The GTO is already overclocked so it is faster than the 7950GT at "stock", however the the 7950GT can overclock close to the maximum overclock of the GTO so they are close. The GTO has generally a much better fan.

Ok thought I would post a benchy

As you can see the x1900xt is kicking the GTO's ass everywhere (both versions), and the x1950xt is a bit faster again.

^^That is a good review of the GTO, by that review the 512mb ram does not appear to be overcoming the core speed of the X1950 even at higher res. I thought thought they were closer in core speed and it would make a difference.

Since the OP said he could get the X1950 cheaper than the other two...that review makes it a no-brainer.
