Vista 64 and NOD32 Problems

I have 2 different Vista 64 boxes, one is a Ultimate and one is a Home Premium. I clean installed Vista on both boxes, setup all the devices and made sure everything was running well and then installed NOD32.

Everything seemed fine for a time then box 1 started having a problem with opening web pages in Firefox and 32bit IE. 64bit IE worked fine and I could ping and do nslookups from the command prompt just fine. I ended up formatting the box and starting over and it has been running fine ever since. A little later I read a post somewhere of someone else with NOD32 having the same problem and tucked that away in the back of my head. I had never even considered that NOD32 could have been the problem.

Fast forward to now and box 2 started having the same problem. 32bit IE and Firefox could not pull up pages but 64bit IE could. Remembering what happened before I uninstalled NOD32 and everything started working fine. Also on this PC I had been having performance problems with Supreme Commander. I attributed this to the A64 3000+ PC being a little older than the other but after uninstalling NOD32 due to the other problem the game now runs great with NOD32 gone.

I have been using NOD32 for years in XP and have never had a performance issue with it. Now I run into this and am not sure what to think. I do know my box runs like it should when I get rid of NOD32. Both boxes are Athlon 64 boxes. One is a 3000+ with 2GB of RAM and SATA drives and the other is a A64 X2 4800+ with 4GB of RAM and SATA drives. With what happened with Surpreme Commander I am beginning to wonder if NOD32 is causing some sort of performance degradation (when it was working) with Vista 64 and I just don't notice it as much on the X2 box.

So that is my story. I don't really know what to do other than to uninstall NOD32. I am not willing to live with these problems just to have NOD32 installed. Does anyone have any ideas or know of this issue with NOD32 and Vista 64?

I got same exact problem. After unsinstalling nod everything is working. But it started to happen 2 days ago. Mybe some nod update or something.

Nod32 is good but nothing is perfect. About a year ago there was a little update that caused bluescreens on XP bootups.

Which was nice.

I still use Nod anyway. Generally it's worked above average.

Had the same problem. Uninstalling NOD32 did the trick. It really messed with Vista trying to figure out what network connections I had. Kept think I had two active one when I don't. I had to re-setup those and give it a second reboot and now everything works.

Glad it was only a 30 day trial and I hadn't payed for it. Funny thing is it had been expired for over 3 weeks.

When the trial expires Nod32 continues to work normally with the exception that you stop getting updates -> your virus database gets out of date and you no longer have a valid protection.

Interesting topic, I've been having nothing but headaches with Kaspersky Internet Security on Home Premium 64, there are 2 dll's that are not digitally signed, which in turn, fails the security audits and freezes the pc. I know this by checking the event viewer and looking at the time I have the security audit failure.

Checking on EventID I see that the issue is from not having the signatures with these *2*dll's.

Since it's hard to do anything with a freezing pc, I was looking to Nod32 for the solution, and as I see it, Nod may not be the answer.

I also have no issues what so ever with Kaspersky removed.

There appears to be a clear picture here that these AV companies claim working software for 64 bit, but so far their claims are unfound.

To me, this is totally unacceptable bullshit. Looks like we need to have a collective meeting of the minds to find out what we can use with Vista 64, that isn't going to cause any of us issues. I hope that you folks will keep us updated, as I will do the same.
