Overheating

I have an alienware area 51 5750 and it seems to be getting a little hot.
I think this because of issues I am having while playing World of Warcraft. My textures are distorted, and I am seeing "laser beams", and entire UI flickers. I believe it's because my system is running to hot. I don't currently have a program to monitor how hot my system is getting, but I have, and the temperature was 113dF ..ish.

I'm not having anyother issues with other games, so I cant be for certain if it's the game, graphics card, or overheating issues. I've tried the forums there, and no luck ..so I thought I would turn to those that could most likely help me out

Either way I would like to get my system to run a little cooler even if it doesn't fix my in-game performance. I'm not sure what info that would be needed to help me do this, and I have no clue of the steps ..so if anyone could please assist me in doing this it would greatly be appreciated. Let me know what info to post, and I will get it promptly.

Thank you vey much for you're time, and assistance.

If you need a program to monitor your temps, try Notebook Hardware Control.

Here's a guide to cool down your laptop:

Thank you. I checked it out, and it's useful. My system is pretty clean ..This is my first laptop, and it was expensive for me so I take pretty good care of it. I will most likely do some of the advanced steps at a later date.

However ...I'm starting to believe that my Vid cards RAM is fried, because of these issues. I'm installing and about to run some system Utilities to monitor heat, fan speed, and also Run 3dmark to verify if it is indeed my video card. I hope it's not the case, but eh ..what ya gonna do?

It's strange because I ran any game I threw at it flawlessly until I upgraded to the expansion of World of Warcraft (TBC) ...I now experience distorted Texture/Artifacts. If it does end up being my vid card I don't see why it would of just all of a sudden fried. I don't know. I guess if anyone else has any opinions on this that they would like to share it would be appreciated ..if not guess I'll just let this post fade to the back. Thanks again for the link to the guide.

Yes all drivers are up to date. I'm searching for a good 17" cool pad at the moment ..should of had one a long time ago. I'm using SpeedFan to monitor my heat ..but it is only giving me the readings for my HD, and one other that I'm not sure what it is. It's labled Temp1 by default, and the chip says ACPI. I'm not exactly sure what reading that is from ...it's always higher, and last night it reached 150F+ while the norm for my HD seems to be around 118Fish ..i'm guessing the 150F is my intire case reading? but I don't know ...i can tell you tough that to the touch it gets a lil warm, maybe even to hot to set straight on the lap, but it never get uncomfortable to the hands hot.

I'm about to run 3dmark, and see what it tells me ...but I think that these temperatures are too hot. Also these temperatures are after being used i.e Gaming, and running tests. Right now it's pretty much idle, and those two readings are: HD 93F, and other "ACPI" is 108F. I'll check temps again after I get done running 3dmark.

Heh ..just started running 3dmark06, and it blue screened me about 1min into it.

NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error...

Now what?

I've already ran RAM test on each of my mem modules ...they show no problems..

I know what ACPI is now ..but I still don't understand what it's reading ...I'm learnin heh. Can someone help a newb out?

I'm doing a total reinstall because I changed some stuff I shouldn't have ...(Silly rookies)

Almost done updating now ...I'm going to run 3dmark again after fresh install ...see what it does. I don't really know what else to do ...wanted to avoid sending it in to get fixed, but I think that's where it's heading. I'll post any updates just in case someone is interested ..or if anyone has any more steps I could try.

Again, anyone know what exactly it's reading when it tells me ACPI ...I dunno. I'm not really to happy about SpeedFan ..anyone else know of a good Heat monitoring tool? I would like to crank my fan up a little bit if it's possible. It's real quite, and Sometimes I can't tell if it's on or not. I don't want it to be aloud and annoying, but I would like for it to kick out just a lil bit more heat then it is. SpeedFan doesn't pick it up so I can't change the speeds with that. I dunno ..

Thanks,
Cwalk
