The crew at OC Team Italy overclocked a 3GHz Pentium 4 all the way to 8180MHz. Wow, talk about an impressive overclock, that is unbelievable.

It was OC Team Italy that had managed to push its golden Pentium 4 631 to 8001MHz. Well apparently they weren't happy with that as they've now managed to push another 179MHz to 8180Mhz. Since the multiplier is locked they had to work with the FSB and push it to an incredible 545MHz. That's a 173% overclock, with a Pentium 4!

Wonder if they were stable enough to run benches.. Or if they just barely got themselves into Windows.. A monster OC regardless..

But how stable is it, is the question. Sure you can get it to OC but, will it fully function with out crashing. The article did not mention that or, show where it had been run through its paces. While that is a great OC it isnt any good if it cant be used for anyting.

It's not an OC in my book unless you can do everything that you could while running it at stock speeds. That's not to say it wasn't stable, but they didn't say if it was or not.

Thats a 273% increase Steve, guessing it's just a typo but don't want all those math zealots to flip out :)

They probably had to reboot 5 or 6 times until CPU-Z, every overclocker's favorite game, would run properly. :p

while that is pretty impressive, the hype is just like back in the day when Intel, I think it was, managed to push one of their 500 or 600 MHz chips over the 1 GHz mark...something like that. still cool though.

Now that is an overclock thats for sure ;). Pretty hard to beat those numbers :)

Its only cool if they actually incoded something and it took a fraction of the time. If they get to use the cpu all the time at that speed, then its cool.
