Overclock it. I want to know the results. over on xtreme some guy hit 3.8ghz @ 1.35vcore

All this incremental upgrading is giving me a headache. What is it that everyone's doing where they need every last cycle of CPU power?

I hope everyone's doing something productive with their CPUs (ie folding). Otherwise, what a waste...

E6600 -> E6550 is a downgrade if you overclock since the newer one has just a 7x multiplier compared to 9x. Even if you don't overclock, it's still a downgrade

Good point. I think most people's dual cores are rarely both running at max except when they're running Orthos for some stress testing. Funny to here so many people just waiting to get their hands on a quad core even though they probably rarely run any software that can truly take advantage of a quad. The Intel marketing people have done good work.

its better then wasting money on drugs =/

Seems about the same to me. :D

Hellz yeah - I bet you can't get as many FPS with crack!

I think your FPS all depends on how much crack you actually do!

actually if you can get the E6550 to overclock higher thena E6600 its not techincally downgrading per say.

A lot of people buy new hardware just for fun to see its limits. some people do it for that point itself let alone "actually use their computer"

Its fun, costly, but did I mention fun :p

Yeah, agree there - I'm quite worried whether or not my E6600 will do the job... :( :D well I actually am.

But you see, crack can't be overclocked and your body will be a bottleneck for the amount. :D

I'm all for fun and enjoyment :) More power to you if you enjoy it.

But I just hope everyone is doing something productive with what they have. If you haven't already, you should consider joining the folding team. It's for a good cause.

if you are like me in a middle of an upgrade/project why not take advantage of it, i have a board that is more capable than i can throw at it, i still havent formally settled in this intel bandwagon as i have been gutting out my PC for the past month i tried the Abit 680i w/led lights on the back (giving cmos error), 2 x Asus P5k Deluxe (1 has bent pins, 1 has oc error failed), now I have a Gigabyte P35DQ6 and it is still in the box, i'll open it up after finals...:(

I thought about this, but I wonder who's going to benefit from the result (looked like they're pretty close with big pharma, and if I'm going to donate my time I sure as heck want a guarantee that the info be under a public use license or some such)

seti is cool but it doesn't seem they need any more help there. Any other programs you can recommend I look into?

....wait you guys are telling me PORN isn't productive!?!

although synthetic benchies doesnt count much here.. here is my score :

:D :D :D

i dont know much about oc'ng but all i did was put the freq to 400x7 and run the benchies...temps where never high than 35C while running 3DMARK

Is the GPU at stock?

If yes then that's a very good score! Just to compare I get 11805 with the CPU @ 2.88 and the GPU @ 658/2132!

e6550 is in the mix with E6850 purchases these days. mostly because of price and clockability :p

E6550/E6700/E6750/E6850/Q6600

push it higher please :D

i dont know asus left a bad taste when i tried thinkering on my Asus P5K DLX BIOS, thats how i ended up with my GB P35 DQ6, honestly i dont know much about OC'ng all i did was raise the FSB to 400. and yes the GTX is in stock, havent OC'd it yet.not that i dont want to just dont know how...

ok so just upped the FSB 429 x 7 (was trying to get a 3.0ghz even)...

how is it so far?? temps 36C on full load of 3dmark and 33C on superpi

The temps are fucking amazing!

They are like my IDLE temps at STOCK!!! :p

Interesting to me too. I get 11,700 on Ultra-D and Opty 170 3ghz & 8800gtx at 625/1050

Primary poster, you are one the the initial testers of this chip. Your treading on unknown territory for us.Let us know if you run your GTX on each bench at stock or whatever the overclock is set at. Very interested.

Just keep pushing the FSB till something gets unstable. Also, set your memory divider to 1:1 instead of 5:6.

how do i do the 1:1?? my 1066 is on my friends machine im using a ddr800 ballistix ver. well like i said asus left a bad taste after the P5K Deluxe mess!!! damn asus!! and to think Asus has his hands on GB too....

Should be in the bios, right now you're OCing DDR800 to ~DDR1000 speeds.

Could someone here who knows Gigabytes p35 bios give him a crash course on setting his stuff correctly as to not allow that ram to exceed spec (I'm guessing it can do up to 1030). I wish I had a p35, I would just confuse him base on my DFI bios knowledge. Like a untrained pilot trying to teach someone how to fly the first time from ground control.

I hope this pic is right. I've never had an intel board. One thing you want to be sure is to make sure is not to run the ram past spec. That is just one thing. There may be 1 or 2 other things that could be a wall too. I wouldn't know. This should be the location to adjust the ram from 1:1 (FSB/ram ratio) down so the ram runs at a lower gear than the FSB. But again I might be way off. Foreign system to me. selecting 2x here if your fsb was set at 333 should make that ram run at 666mhz (DDR). I would think that you would want this at 2x if your FSB is set to 400 making the ram run at DDR800. Again, I really don't know that bios.

Sorry I'm not familiar with that board either. Google might bring up something useful, reviews usually give some details on how to adjust the bios settings for overclocking.

Move it (ram mulitipler) from 2.4x (you are currently at from what I got in my math) and change to 2x

Gradually move the FSB up to 450. You should then be at DDR900 and 3150mhz after finally getting to 450fsb.

well that didnt take long.....

now 13444 later...

I see Intel has gone away from its VID on the new G0 steppings. All I have seen are at 1.35 but anyways nice chip, also what voltage are you using?

Can you post the CPU page of your CPU-Z in your screenshots, that will probably provide the most information. (Also post the memory page like you have before)
