New Vista Hotfixes

nothing superb for what i use... haven't noticed any huge problems before or after.

Nice, but I think I can wait a week for the Microsoft Update download....there may still be some last minute tweaks that will be made before it's official release.

I'm going to wait as well. Manually uninstalling beta hotfixes is never fun.

maybe i'll download it tonight and see what happens. if all else fails...just do a format. i've been meaning to do a nice reinstall of everything. its been a few months. all my important shit is on flash drives.

it does seem to work as described I had little glitches that are now gone. what do you do on your rig Water boy that is some serious dough invested there.

* Improves the performance when copying or moving entire directories containing large amounts of data or files.

finally, one of my only real beefs with Vista, using windows explorer is bog down hell.

This is the kind of patch that will really help user acceptance. File transfer speeds are much improved for me after installing.

the printer issue they fixed might be good for some users as well.

guess we can consider this a mini service pack? lol

* Increased reliability and performance of Vista when entering sleep and resuming from sleep. :D

How big of an issue is that? I've no experience with such things - is it a real pain in the ass to get rid of them or something?

If you can remove them with add/remove programs it's fine.

If not, you have to boot from the Windows DVD, drop to the command prompt:

cd \windows
dir $*
Find the uninstall folder for the hotfix you need to remove.

CD $NtUninstallKB938979$\spuninst
BATCH SPUNINST.txt

So, I guess it's not THAT big of a deal, but after having to do this once with a beta hotfix, I always wait for the retail release...

They removed just fine. Had to remove the second one from Vista 64 because it prevents you to turn off digital driver signing, making Rivatuner no worky.

After installing the patches, my game run very smooth now. Before that, I was experiencing jerkiness and choppiness within my Unreal Tournament. Now it's smooth sailing. This is for my Nvidia driver.

No difference in transfering speed. Still the same for me. Never really had problem with transfering files in the first place or I'm not so sure how fast it is suppose to be. 700meg transfered pretty fast. 1.4gig slow down a bit.

Framerates down 10% in Call of Juarez DX10 benchmark and Company of Heroes DX10 benchmark with an 8800GTX and forceware 163.11s.

thats funny finkus. i did all the same benches and mine was exactly the same. i bet you were running more backround programs this time than before.

as for the fix...

MY PVR-150 WORKS IN VISTA x64 WITH 4GB OF RAM:D :D :D :D

i feel like cying right now i am so happy, it ive missed my tv tuner

edit: i really dont feel like crying, just happy

edit 2: it stopped working again... wierd...

Bah. You're lucky. My system and background tasks were identical pre and post patching and both done on fresh reboots. I even tried again after 30 mins or so to let my HDD calm down a bit after the update and still got the same result. :(

EDIT: nm. I remember now. I also installed the nvidia SATA update that was on windows update today as well, which may have affected the benchies somehow.

So if I were to install this on my laptop that is running Vista, what will that do to the custom video card driver that I have installed? Will I have to go back to the original driver that was released back in Jan?

I spoke too early. After one fucking day, Vista is acting up again. Games are choppy once again. It's like it doesn't remember whatever.

Just like the icons, you set View icons to medium. The next day it will not remember what you set it at and have it at a different size.

maybe when it comes out of beta next week those things will be fixed? who knows

All of my programs load now without having to manually start them, like my touchpad and the Weather Channel desktop, etc....I also had my very first BSOD this morning :(

....I hope it was just a passing fad :D

i installed these didnt see a difference, my compaq v2410us laptop and its radeon 200m video still wont install the drivers correctly, no idea why they wont install this is a fresh copy of windows, the cat drivers wont install they look like they do but dont ever update the default windows vista driver.

I noticed one major problem for me at least. One of the patches effects how soon or if the screen is redrawn. In Photoshop CS3 this creates a problem if you have multiple files open and close one with the patches open the screen doesn't get redrawn unless you resize the image in navigator. Minor but annoying.

has anyone had any issues with the ATI cat drivers installing under vista 32 bit? vista doesnt seem like it wants to install it goes through the whole process but then it just ask me to restart i do and nothing new happens, no power play settings, driver version is still the default august of 06 drivers getting kind of pissed

Uninstall the Cat Control Center, choose custom and make sure to click all the boxes.

Reboot

Then run Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and make sure anything from ATI is gone. If the cleaner still needs to remove parts of the CCC then you will need to reboot one more time.

You should be able to intall the drivers with no issue now

Vista seems to have issues removing programs at times.

FUNNY BESIDES SLEEP BUG I HAVE ZERO PROBLEMS WITH VISTA 64. THEN AGAIN I SPENT 10 MIN ONLINE MAKING SURE MY PARTS WERE VISTA COMPATIBLE. UNTIL THERE IS A GUARANTEED FIX FOR THE SLEEP BUG IM NOT INSTALLING ANY OF THESE "HOT FIXES" IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!!!!!!!!

Except you caps lock key seems to be broken under Vista.

I installed the hotfixes and didnt notice any improvements in performance, IQ or reliablity. As for the performance, it will probably be like the Multi GPU hotfix where we will have to wait for drivers that take advantage of the hotfix.

Vista 64 is very stable and I enjoy gaming on it, my one week on Vista 32. Well all I can say Vista 32 can go burn in fire.

ok ill try that right now just wondering why the ati drivers wouldnt install off a clean install have tried this 5 times on new installs never got it to work also seems that the CCC wont even install it installs the cat install manager and thats it

Also i just did that and went back to install the ATI Drivers and its saying the only 2 things to install is the Northbridge filter driver and the ATI CAT install manager, i got the drivers http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/integrated-vista32.html from here and i did the one that has it all just wondering why it doesnt include the driver or the CCC for me

Re-Run the install with out un-installing anything, I do believe it is installing the dirvers instages but the CCC doesnt give any promps for that. I seem to remember having that issue with Vista 32 on my 580X chipset.

still not working the cat installer doesnt even display drivers being installed and nothing ATI is installing correctly
dont know wtf is going on

it's always fun to find out that pr0n is the answer to a $3000 solution :D

I don't do anything intensive really. I just love to mess with the latest stuff...It's fun trying to out do your buddy's rig too...I do host lan parties every few months, so I got to have the latest and greatest, that's all. My whole garage is wired up with 10/100 cat5 (I need to rewired with cat5e, too lazy now). Custom built desks are attached to walls that can be fold up and down. When not gaming, the desks are fold up and my other expensive toy parks in there. Oh and porn too:D
