At the last page of Techspot's crysis performance review, they posted some 32bit vs. 64 bit figures for crysis:
http://http://www.techspot.com/article/73-crysis-performance/page8.html

GeForce 8800 GTX (768MB) 32-bit
1440x900 = 38.6fps
1680x1050 = 30.8fps
1920x1200 = 25.8fps

GeForce 8800 GTX (768MB) 64-bit
1440x900 = 45.6fps
1680x1050 = 36.4fps
1920x1200 = 30.0fps

I haven't seen any other info on the comparison except that site, so I was wondering if anyone has any supporting or unsupporting evidence of this.

If this is true then I suppose it is time for me to migrate to a 64 bit OS.

thats pretty cool tbh, would like to see some more, and does it say if that was XP or Vista?

Awsome! looks like i can finaly put my 64 bit cpu to use.

But i do have a question if going from xp to vista decreases performance. would you see a performance boost going from win xp 32 bit to win vista 64?

I saw a similar difference in dx9 XP x64, the demo wouldnt run in 64bit dx10 in vista on the latest forceware. r_displayinfo 1 showed that in 32bit mode the game was using ~800mb ram while in 64bit it was using over 1200mb. I think a Crytek employee said in a recent interview that 64bit allows them much better memory management, something about not having to stream and being able to load the whole level at once.

ooo i like i like!

8800GT couldnt come at a better time :D

Installing x64 Vista right now...

...and ordered up another 2GBs of yummy OCZ R2 Plats.

iv been running the 64bit version no problem, its definatly faster then hte 32bit, just make sure under your 3d manangment to set vsync to force off, if its on let app choose the 64bit exe will crash, if you set to force on it will limit your fps to 30 and feel sluggish most of the time, kinda liek how bioshock ran poorly with vsync on

I have found the exact opposite

Opteron 165 @ 2.7ghz in vista x64, using 8800GTS 640mb 620/975/1512 running 169.01 drivers

test done at 1680x1050 all settings on medium

32 Bit CPU test average frame rate = 34.33

64 Bit CPU test average frame rate = 30.24

im running the game on avg of about 50 fps
core 2 duo 1.86 overclocked @ 2.8ghz stock air ( 1600 mhz FSB )
Asus commando with 2gb corsiar ddr2 800
Asus 8800 GTS 320mb overclocked @ 600 / 1800
Vista 64bit ultimate

why don't you run the Benchmark_CPU in both the bin64 and bin32 folders and post your results instead of just going by the "about" number by looking at fraps

guess your right, but i wasnt far off jsut by looking at the game and using good judgment, i said iwas running about 50fps avg so i was right in sence

That's probably because you're using AMD. It seems like AMD CPUs perform worse in 64-bit mode in Crysis. We should wait for in-depth benchmarks for concrete reasonings behind this behavior. That being said, Intel seems to perform better in 64-bit in Crysis compared to 32-bit counterpart. :D

I can't get the x64 bit version to run in 64 dx10 mode; the game locks at the setup/main menu; anyone have any ideas?

.

yea to fix that lock up problem go into the nvidia controll panel and to manage 3d settings, select crysis in the menu and set vsync to force off, then 64bit dx10 will work

Thanks, I'll try that.

Edit; It works, thank guys; and it seems faster in Dx10, x64. I'm sure now I'll stick w/ my 640mb GTS, at least until I see the new offerings in a few months. I wonder why we have to force off the vert. sync, other than it seems to slow many games down. Thanks again.

Anyone here running the have a bugged CPU benchmark in XP dx9? the guy doesnt thrown nades at the shacks anymore like he does in the dx10 vista benchmark. I tried reinstalling the demo but its still different, this makes it kinda hard to compare dx9 to 10 since the timedemo isnt the same. any ideas?

Thanks for the vsync tip btw, now i can finally run 64bit in vista.

i just redid the test and it does seem 32bit is faster, in the minium FPS , the max fps are about the same but as you can see there is a 5fps differance between 32bit and 64bit, wich makes me wonder if there is any other advantges from running the 64bit version

I'll tell you guys right now, that with the rig in the sig, running crysis in 32 bit was horrifying. I had to put it on 1024 x 768 to run everything on high.

Then I found out that I had to revert to the old nvidia drivers to get the 64 bit version to work.

When I did I could run it at 1440 x 900, just about everything on high and it was super smooth.

Big difference, at least for me.

I've just ran 32-bit vs 64-bit benchmark on my Q6600 @ 3.6GHz + 8800GTX + 4GB G.SKILL + Vista x64.
Performance is actually worse in 64-bit mode. So, I'd like to take back what I said earlier in this thread. It does not seem to have anything to do with AMD and/or Intel.
32-bit performance is better than 64-bit in Crysis at the moment.

My system is almost identical to yours and Crysis runs faster in 64bit in XP x64. Now that I know the Vista 64bit trick ill try it and compare. Can anyone running the crysis cpu bench on XP tell me if the guy throws nades at the shacks on your pc? i think mine is bugged and missing some animation.

Not for me.

64-bit is leaps and bounds better.

I just ran Crysis 32 vs 64 bit on a Q6600 + 8800GTX + 4GB Muskin Ram + Vista Ultimate 64

CPU Benchmark.

I noticed that the average framerate was the same (39 vs 39) for 32 and 64 bit, but 64 bit had a higher peak frame rate 52 vs 48. Overall, the benchmark seemed smoother in 64 bit mode, I suspect the memory management is improved in 64 bit enough offset any "lag" issues that would exist in 32 bit mode. I played the demo in 32 bit mode the first time around and found a few spots here and there where it would hiccup in framerate, so far in 64 I've not noticed any of that.

About time. How long have the 64bit CPUs have been out? I guess hardware needs to penetrate the market first.
