So I tried many custom settings that I read online for the P5N, and almost all of them froze the computer, and it wouldn't POST. I got it to 3.0GHZ and saw just the POST screen. I was wondering if you guys could share some overvoltage numbers and see how I can get close to the 1:1 ratio.

I have a:
1. Q6600 with G0 Stepping (MX-2 Thermal Application)
2. 4GB Patriot Extreme 6400 4-4-4-12 that's supposedly Micron D9 and has a lot of OC potential
3. ASUS P5N32-SLI Board (Rev. 1302 Bios 11/05/2007)
4. Zalman 9700
5. OCZ Memory Cooler with 2 Fans (and then 2 120mm fans in my case)
6. 2 x EVGA 8800GT KO SLI (675/1950)

Ram voltage for Patriots is at the recommended 2.2v (I know, I know)

The only thing that runs stable for me is the auto AI overclock at 15% with 5-5-5-15 timings... and that's a paltry 2.76ghz (306.51 X 9)

I've heard the Q6600 can go to 3.4ghz with this board, and even 3.2 on stock air. Please help!

PS: My northbridge fan should be coming soon to cool down this hot/unstable board.

The temps you are seeing is the Zalman at 40% with the AI Overclock at 15%

I'll probably need to know:

1. Did you change the multiplier from 9x? Or did you just raise FSB
2. Are your settings Unliked/Linked/Auto?
3. Did you disable the PCI-E spectrum? I heard the Asus mobo autoclocks the PCI Express lanes
4. Your voltages (cpu, nb, sb if possible)
5. Anything you changed!

I really, really appreciate this! =)

I tried 1333 even with ram at 800 but I'd get a POST freeze. I do not know how some are getting 3.4ghz on this board with no vcore change and 4448 2t timings. I just need this to hit 355 Fsb qdr with a 9x multiplier. Today marks the end of my rma refund day too with newegg open box

I got 3Ghz on this board with my E6600 without even trying. However, I don't think it's the best board for overclocking quads from what I hear.

citizen__erased:

Did you set your FSB (QDR) to 1333 and unlink the Ram to 800mhz?

Right now I'm somewhere like 1278 FSB and 920 mhz--if I try conventional ways like I've read online, the system won't POST.

I'm at 2.88ghz now with the VCore at 1.4 and memory at 2.2v (Patriot Extreme recommended voltage)

Yep, I just set the FSB to 1333 and unlinked the RAM. The only other thing I did was manually set the vcore to its stock value of 1.325. Shame that if I want to go up to 3.2Ghz I have to really ramp up the vcore. So I just leave it at 3Ghz.

Hmm, I'm wondering if 1.4v for the CPU Core for a Q6600 is a little too much... since I'm only hitting 2.86-2.88ghz anyway.

So, I tried my settings in:

1. Orthos: Failed a test within 6 minutes, everytime
2. Everest Benchmark: failed test 30 minutes in
3. Counterstrike: 1st few attempts resulted in crash
4. Team Fortress 2: some stutters at 180fps 1920*1200, fails every hour, nvlddmkm errors all over the place--Game is made unplayble

QDR FSB: 1274
Ram MHZ: 930

Ratio: 11:16

I cannot do standard unlinking and leaving the memory at 800mhz. The only things I've changed are the voltages (tried auto, 1.325, 1.4), and added a northbridge cooler, which is an active cooler master 40mm chipset fan.

I can conclude that this motherboard is the least reliable and least overclocker friendly mobo I have used. No more ASUS open boxes, even if I save a measly $60.
