I am thinking about getting either GTX 260 or 9800 GX2 or 9800GTX SLI. They goes 400, 410, 430 respectively. Which one of these will give me the best bang for the buck? I am upgrading from the rig in sig, with a 600w Enermax noisetaker series, might have little trouble running SLI (no trouble running 7800GT SLI though), but I am willing to give it a try, so don't take that into consideration.

Depends on what game you play. The 260 will give you the least amount of headaches due to there being no SLI issues.

260 hands down. 260 is just as good, if not even a little better, than the GX2 and 9800SLI, especially at higher resolutions. Furthermore, the 260 is a single card, so not only don't you have worry about some games having trouble with dual GPU utilization, but you also only have a single slot used. So, in the future you can upgrade to a second 260 (by this time, most games probably won't have any problems with dual GPU setups).

According to Tomshardware review:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-gtx-280,1953-15.html

GTX 260's big brother GTX280 is being spank by 9800GX2 in just about every game at 1920x1200 which is my preference resolution. In exception of the most recent games: mass effect and GRID. I am thinking GTX 200 series will shine more on future games, or newer games just not made for SLI?

Now I am even more confuse on which to get

EDIT: as for future upgrade ability, 9800GX2 can go quad SLI, won't that be just the same as 260's SLI?

if you were going for a SLI setup , I would go with the 260.

Or.. you could wait and see what the 4850's and the 4870's can bring to the table. As of right now the Price/Performance is looking pretty good.

I only have around 400 dollars to spend on video card for now, thinking about getting the most out of it. looking for something that will last me for a while. I never had a ATI card, and my mobo is not compatible with crossfire, so I dont know if ATI cards are right for me.

I picked up two 9800 GX2's for $300 from ebay with cashback. You can get them still for $219 with 30% cashback and have a hell of a gaming machine or folding (mine are being used to fold).

avoid the gx2 if you intend to game at 19x12 or above with the eye candy turned up. micro-stutter. the 260 is much smoother. don't buy into the benchmark bullshit in regards to this card.
