Retail E6550 + G31 motherboard $149.99 @ frys.com

Hmm, not a fan of ECS boards.

But, not a bad deal considering Newegg has the E6550 for $160.

same... but i figure how bad can you mess up an intel chipset board with passive cooling...

ended up buying this combo to upgrade a family computer... all i got was a tt 430w psu, and a 2GB stick of ddr2 (beware, this thing has only 2 slots) and for < $250 i can upgrade the seriously aging athlon 2800+ and nforce2 board... theyll be going from GF4 ti4200 to the intel X3100, but they'll probably not even notice the difference... not when going from 768MB to 2GB ram and a getting a new dc cpu...

Not a bad deal IMO. I remember when Outpost used to have these types of specials. When my computer room is done, I'd like to find a decent set like this for a backup rig.

If it was me, I'd hit the fry's setup, more cache, an the VT is nice, but maybe you are not doing VT...
