9800GTX+ Today

Judging by a few previews on other websites the card should be available today. It does not show up on Newegg yet though.

Their have been like 4 posts this week on this topic, they all have like two replies (atleast one of them buy me) and then they go into oblivion.

I think NV is trying to sell as many 65nm G92 chips before getting rid of 55nm chips.

You can preorder on the evga site...its $199.99 MSRP for the base model 738mhz core. Here's a Link to evga I think that should signify that the 9800GTX+ from asus/msi/gigabyte and the likes will be $180 or so? Probably very much worth it at those prices...especially if reviews show it can OC to 800 on the core :D

Thanks for that EVGA link. I am kinda excited about this card. I don't know how early an adopter I am going to be. I have never been an early adopter before and my cashflow right now isn't hitting on much.

I look forward to people's impressions once this does ship though.

The 9800GTX+ can be a 65nm or a 55nm G92 chip, they are just clocking the 65nms up and slapping the + sticker, I am however waiting for the 55nm version.

I was one of the first to buy an x1950pro (ultimate) which was the first 80nm video card, my luck wasn't so good with that video card. There is no way the 9800GTX+ could be worse, it doesn't have a digital pwm.

Is there going to be a good way to guarantee to get the 55nm version? That is what I am looking for too.

As far as I am aware, no there isn't. IT has taken longer for the 55nm chips to even get onto the market (unless they are already out in the market) then I originally thought. First it was supposd to be july 8th, then july 16th, but I still haven't seen a card that I could say, "this is 55nm". Although I did see one palit card on zipzoomfly using a product number that has the + in it, but I believe thats still a 65nm version.

I noticed today that when configuring PCs through cyberpowerpc you can choose a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+

Figured this is going to be a common question of how this thing stacks up to current *single card* configurations and if it's worth spending $100+ for the next model up, etc, so I assembled a few benches myself from around Anand all at 1920x1200:

Crysis - 1920x1200 HQ/VeryHQ Shaders No AA
4870X2 : 39.1
GTX280 : 34.3
4870 : 29.7
GTX260 : 28.6
9800 GTX+ : 26.8
4850 : 24.7

CoD4 - 1920x1200 4xAA
GTX280 : 90.9
4870 : 82.4
GTX260 : 74.3
4850 : 66.4
9800 GTX+ : 61.4
4870X2 : N/A

ET:QW - 1920x1200 4xAA
GTX280 : 99
4870 : 96.8
GTX260 : 84.2
4850 : 75.4
9800 GTX+ : 64.1
4870X2 : N/A

Oblivion - 1920x1200 4xAA
4870X2 : 72.5
GTX280 : 51.1
GTX260 : 43
4870 : 41.5
9800 GTX+ : 40.2
4850 : 34.8

Looks like this old G92 core still has some legs left, but it's starting to show its age showing up at the bottom of the pack in all of these tests (and all others, it was just hard to find tests that were conducted across the majority of these cards on Anand, feel free to add results). There's a lot of close calls in the 4850/4870/9800GTX+/GTX260 $200-300 arena. I have a feeling there needs to be some driver maturing on the 48xx and 260 side before you can get a clear picture of what card to get here. There is also the case to be made for 9800GTX+ overclocking, which could change these results dramatically. It does look like a solid competitor to the 4850, though. Wait for a month to see how things look then?

The same could be said about the 4850, though (in regards to overclocking). The 4850 and 4870 use the same GPU, after all, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a 4850 to reach 4870 core clocks. The 48xx series also has better AA, which given the lack of demanding games, was the deciding factor for me (just bought a 4850).

That does seem to be the trend, the 48xx series is just better at AA and actually still has room for improvement through drivers since it's brand new. Not sure how much more they can squeeze out of a G92 so its numbers might not change too greatly in a month's time. I think the 4850 is still the card to beat at the $200 pricepoint and has a tad more functionality than a G92 part. A drop to $150 would make the 9800GTX+ look a lot better, though.

the biggest factor for me is that I've read that the Nvidia cards don't have audio out through HDMI, but the AMD cards do. Any truth to that?

It basically replaces SPDIF functionality on your motherboard. So you get 2 channel PCM, along with DD and DTS, but unfortunately no 7.1 LPCM.

Hell my evga 9800gtx Ko stock 739mhz hits 800mhz and stays nice cool and stable. That is no big deal if another card does the same exact thing just because it has a + on it. LOL :D

That what exactly what we need: a G80 re-re-spin!
I knew something was missing in my life...

I think the main appeal of the 9800GTX is the lower temps and lower noise. Every review complains about the crazy heat of the 4800 series, and the deafening noise of the GTX 260 & 280, which supposedly makes my G90 GTS sound quiet (it isn't).

I think we need a 55 nm die shrink of the GTX 260, that's what I want.

Turning up the fan speed solves the "crazy heat" of the 4800 series. Then again, I couldn't care less what the GPU temp is as I don't plan on overclocking my 4850.

Doesn't show 55nm on the newegg description. Hopefully someone will buy it, and take the cooler off, just so were 100%. If you look closely you will see the + label is just a sticker on the 'old' 9800GTX box, but I don't blame them for that.

Hopefully some how ill be able to save up enough money to buy one of these things before stalker: CS comes out, but I have to buy a 22in LCD first.

I don't claim to be an expert about these things

/disclaimer

If you look at the pictures of the 9800 GTX+ and pay close attention to the screws on the back of the board it looks like the board is designed for the new, smaller die. However, it seems the + one is still leaving the screws in the larger sized holes. Might that be a clue for us?

I'm working on the same thing, saving for a 22" monitor and a $200 video card, probably the EVGA 9800+ so I have the chance to step up. Is there any decent reviews of this card yet?

http://www.evga.com/articles/421.asp

It mentions 55nm a lot on the product page. I'm inclined to believe that all 9800gtx+ cards are 55nm.

Good call. This looks legit.

Someone buy one and report back. I want to get one but have never been an early adopter of anything really. My girlfriend goes out of country in a week though, so it would be nice to have this in my computer for some gaming while she is gone.;)

I might have to look at my budget and become an early adopter. Is this eligible for the step up? If I get it and don't like it can I change my mind?
