Kendrak Interview +++++ HARD DC'er of the Month June 2008
Please join me in congratulating Kendrak for being selected as the [H]ard DCer of the month for June 2008. This is quite an honor when you consider that the [H]orde has 1,458 active folders. Kendrak is currently ranked #95 on our team, and he has 1.95 million points. In April and June of 2008 he produced over 400,000 points per month. He should produce more than 500,000 points in July of 2008. He is ranked #1,150 in the world.
Kendraks 25,000 points per day currently puts him at position 14 on the list of top producers for Team 33. Wow! That is a ton of points!
He has only two folders on his threats list: HighYield and tedkj.
And he is progressing up the ranks of our team. Within one month he will jump up to spot #67 on our team.

Basic Information:
How many F@H points do you have?
Stanford says I have 1,352,786.
How about United Devices and WCG points?
None.
How many boxen do you have? Break this number down between borgs and your personal machines.
All of my points and boxen are home grown. I don't have any borgs. I have tried a few times... but never very much.
Boxen are as follows:
Main rig: Q6600 @3.3Ghz and a 8800GTS 320
Wife's Rig: Athlon X2 5200
HTPC: E2160 (soon to have the 8800GTS after I upgrade)
Headless/diskless boxen: E2160, E4500 and 2x Q6600's
All of the boxen are OC-ed. (I don't believe in non over-clocked boxen ever since my 300A Celeron.)
When did you start folding? What kind of project or projects did you participate in?
I'm not sure when I started folding. It was years ago. I was still in high school. Then I baked my PII (I think it was a 400) and I stopped. I could not lose any more hardware at the time.
When did you start folding for the [H]orde?
I've never folded for any other team. I've been reading the [H] for well over a decade, and a member of the forums for almost 7 years.
What is your average F@H points per month?
I seem to be hitting between 15k to 16k a month depending on what curve balls Stanford sends us. I've been out of town a bunch this summer and had a PSU go bad while I was out. This caused my PPD to drop. I'm getting them back to normal now.
Did you contribute to United Devices? How about WCG?
Just F@H.
What operating system do you primarily use?
I use a combination of notfreds, windows XP and I just installed Vista on my main box.
If you use Linux, how familiar with Linux are you?
I'm a linux noob. I can install it and browse the web... thats about it.
How many boxen do you have running the following clients?
regular client 0
SMP client 9
GPU client 3 with 2 more on the way
Have you tried Affinity Changer (AC)? If so, what were your results?
Yes... a bit of a bump, worth a minute or two of time.
Have you tried using Virtual Machines (VMs)? If so, what were your results? Please explain your VM setup if you have used VMs.
No, unless I had someone to show me what was going on I don't have the time or the patience.
Personal Information:
Name: Isaac Mills
Location: Gallipolis, Ohio
Occupation: Financial Advisor
Hobbies: I play hockey once in a while, computer games, and folding. Work takes up a good bit of my life.
What is your [H]ard OCP username? What is the meaning or significance of your [H]ardOCP username, if any?
I used to go by the name Plasmic in middle school. Then I started seeing it pop up other places and that was enough of that. I made up Kendrak in High School, that's about it... no real meaning. It's not even based on my real name.
On to the interview:
Congratulations on being chosen the [H]ard DC'er for the month. How does it feel to be chosen by your peers for such a prestigious award?
Never thought I'd win. I got nominated a few months back and got a few votes, but nothing like what happened this month. It feels great, but I know there are many that helped me to get set up and still more that encouraged me to add to my farm and to ramp up. We are a team and I feel honored to get the award, but none of us would be where we are with out the help of others.
Why do you think you were chosen?
Not sure, I try and help when I can, and I'm all about the competition. I guess I've made more friends here than I thought.
Why do you participate in Distributed Computing?
Mainly for my sister and for when I have kids. I forget the official name, but in my family hearing and eyesight go away, sometimes quickly. My sister is legally deaf and hard of sight. I asked her one time what she sees without her glasses, and she said colors and that's about it. If a cure can be found for her, it would be a blessing, but short of that I'd love for the future generations in my family and others not to have to deal with this.
There is also so much more to do, the list goes on and on. How can you not fold?!?!
Why do you DC for the [H]ard [H]orde at [H]ard OCP?
There was no choice. Great people, great team. I would not be anywhere else.
If DCing could find a cure for just one disease tomorrow, which one would it be and why?
Alzheimers, it takes too many good years away from good people, and it scares the daylights out of me.
What would you like the [H]orde to know about you that might surprise them?
I'm 25, own my own house, been married for 2 years, and I run my own office and have my AAMS certification.
I Googled AAMS since I dont know what that is. Here is what I found:
AAMS Accredited Asset Management Specialist
This designation is awarded by the College for Financial Planning to investment professionals who complete its 12-module AAMS Professional Education Program, pass an examination, commit to a code of ethics and agree to pursue continuing education.
Where do you see your DCing activities in the next year or two?
My hope is to upgrade all of the headless/diskless to quad cores, and depending on how the GPU2 goes adding some clients there.
Where do you see the [H]ard DC sub-forum in the near future? Long term?
I hope we continue to grow, now and into the future. I think the GPU2 client has the potential to do that for us.
Tell us about the Community Boxen Program. Where did it start, where is it now, and what does the future hold?
Like many other times... it is the brainchild of Evil and Digital Exhaust and they contacted me to see if I would help. After a chat it was decided that I would help round up people to foster these boxen.
What we are trying to do is have a group of boxen that never would have been built folding (for the [H] of course). My hope in the future is that parts keep coming in and we keep sending boxen out. This will help the team in two ways. A higher PPD for the team as a whole, and second, a group of computers that we can switch over quickly for things like the chimp challenge.
Are you involved in any other special DC activities?
Just here at the [H].
Any ideas on improving the [H]ard DC sub-forum, or suggestions or improvements for our Team?
Just let it evolve the way it has... the [H]orde knows best.
When was the last time that you lied, and was it a good one?
Not in the habit of that... I honestly can't remember.
What do you have hiding underneath your bed?
Thats not where I hide stuff. It's boxen of stuff that the wife wont throw out.
Do you think that your folding activities might improve your chances with the opposite sex?
The farm expiation might have used up a few more wife points than I had expected. So no... didn't help.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Not that I can think of. I'll let everyone ask in the thread.
Do you game? If so, how long and what types do you prefer? Consoles or PC?
We have a Wii. That is mostly for the wife. I play a fair bit of ETQW when I have time. It rotates around what I play. I love the HL2 franchise and everything that is coming out of it. I want Portal 2 NOW! We are looking at Rock Band for the Wii, but we might end up with Wii fit. If we get the fit it might tell me to go eat a cheeseburger.
Is the cake really a lie?
The cake exists... the lie is that you will never get the cake.
Did I forget to ask you anything?
Dunno?
