Real Files Suit Against Hollywood
Some companies throw parties when they launch a new product. Some companies issue a press release and others hold press junkets. Not these guys, when they launch a product, they file a preemptive lawsuit against Hollywood to go with it. Now that's balls with a capital B.

Must be nice to have someone working on the inside. Isn't this like confessing to participating in industrial espionage?

That's pretty bad-ass. "Hey, let's release our product today" "Wait, we have to finish the lawsuit!"

I'm guessing the reason their software is legal is that it just copies the dvd to your HD still encoded. I doubt it's another commercial attempt at dvd decrypter.

1. According to Real, a 2nd layer of DRM is added, in addition to the CSS from the original DVD, so that should help them out legally.
2. "(Kaleidescape's 2007 courtroom victory over the DVD Copy Control Association is cited by Real as the precedent for the RealDVD software.)" Big precedent there that they (Real) will surely use. Doesn't seem like there is much of a difference between that and this.

Lawsuits are so out of hand it's pathetic, so this really doesn't surprise me. What else would you expect in a country where we graduate 10 lawyers for every engineer.

Yeah but how long before someone clever makes a piece of software that gets around that problem?

Why would that matter in regards to Real unless they are the ones who make the software?

why would I buy that though? there is plenty of free software to use and I don't really care if MPAA likes it or not. there still is that fair usage idea that seems to get less and less attention. If I was going to pirate a disk that is just too easy. If I want to keep a copy of a movie that I own it saves a LOT of disk space to use a different method

I find myself deeply conflicted on who I should be rooting for in these lawsuits. On the one hand the MPAA are the scum of the Earth, on the other a crushing legal defeat could put Real out of business. The same can't be said about the MPAA.

Are there too many lawyers? Yes. Do I feel bad for a second about being a lawyer? Not a fucking minute. I don't make the rules, I just play to win.

When you live in a society that governs by the rule of law, rather than fiat, you need lawyers. Cry more.

Or you can just let him do whatever he does and not draw opinions about what he should or shouldn't do.

That's as fucking stupid as saying "well, if you're an electrical engineer, I hope you're doing something other than making electric tasers to strap to peoples balls in torture chambers"

Why would this even matter? How is DVD Fab Decrypter still around, but DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter got shut down?
