Xbox 360 UK Sales Up 213%

It looks as though those price cuts are helping Microsoft move some consoles. The company says sales are up 214% in the UK. This comes on the same day as word that the new Jasper motherboards are popping up on store shelves now too.

Quote:
Microsoft has said Xbox 360 sales have increased by 214 per cent following the simultaneous price cut of all three models in Europe. As of September 2008, the PlayStation 3 has reached 1.4 million units, the Xbox 360 2.3 million and the Wii 3.6 million units.

Jasper: http://beta.ivancover.com/wiki/index..._360_Revisions

It's a board with the 65nm ATI GPU vs 90nm in all prior versions.

I wonder which DVD drives the Jasper versions use. I bought a Falcon after my launch 360 (finally) red-ringed and that thing is still loud as a vacuum cleaner when that thing is spinning.

There is currently no proof that any Jasper based 360 system have hit retail yet. The 360 drives website simply added the option of Jasper to there list sometime ago and low and behold people have started adding there systems with that board.......even though they haven't tried to identify if they have it or not, you simply have to look at posters comments on that website to see, that most of them haven't opened there console and some are just going off the manufacture date.

So far there is zero proof to show that a single jasper board has shown up in retail.

Think I'll wait another 8 months to replace both my Xboxes with the Jasper model. I'm running 1st revision and a Falcon. Never had a Zephyr.

I try not to play them too often. I want to get some $$ back when I replace them.

I have a PS3 and a gaming PC, but mainly game on the PC and plan on sticking with these two for now- But.......... When I look at these price cut's and the sales spikes with the 360 I can't help but think that it will pull away from the PS3 in sales world wide if this keeps up. I mean, if it gets to the point where all of the motherboard on the new consoles are Jasper, and you look at the price, it's hard to find a reason not to seriously consider an Xbox. My saving grace is most of the 360 games I want come out on the PC with simultaneous releases, or a few months down the road, so I am not in too much of a hurry to get one, though eventually I will.

Not surprising at all. The consoles were extremely overpriced here in Euroland before.

And the link you provided says

Quote:
The launch was revealed by the XBOX 360 DVD Drive Database, a site which compiles component information from users' consoles to guide potential buyers. Official details on the launch were not readily available.
That link just links there source as the dvdlist website mentioned in the original post. Alot of news sources have picked up on it and simply copy/pasted without even bothering to check if its legit or not. So far there has been no proof that a single jasper based system has been sold through retail and there has been no official confirmation that any have shipped to retail either.

Toytown is right, Xbox Scene has a heated thread over there over this, the general consensus is that this should be considered pure rumor/speculation until actual proof if provided, info on some website won't cut it. Actual pictures would help.

Yep. Now with the price cuts, they are the same prices as the US had when the 360 first released. After conversion to the US dollar.

It's cheaper than US launch prices in the UK, only because none of these models were available at launch :

The all-important figures, then, will see the hard drive-less Xbox 360 Arcade hit £129.99, the 60GB Xbox 360 sitting at £169.99 and the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite at £229.99. Interestingly that puts UK pricing exactly in line with "US to UK plus VAT" prices - a rare occurrence indeed. Kudos, then, to Microsoft for that one!
http://www.trustedreviews.com/gaming...Hits-Friday/p1

The exchange rate is currently $1.77/£, making those prices $230 ($212 at amazon.co.uk), $300 and $407. That's essentially price parity with the current US prices, plus VAT of course.

Great to hear the XBOX coming back to life. Sales had slowed so this is great to hear.
