Camera Sold On eBay Contained Spy Pics
When I say this camera was sold on eBay with “spy pics” on it…I really mean it. I’m not sure what is going on in the U.K. lately but we have seen several incidents lately where PCs have been sold on eBay with sensitive info still on them, now we have MI6 spy pics on cameras? Sheesh!

Do the security leaks never end? What's been going on lately?
Its not just the UK, the US has some serious issues with this as well. Didn't the FBI lose a bunch of laptops with security info on them lately? I haven't heard anything about the CIA losing info, but at this point it wouldn't surprise me...

See, the problem with protocol and computer security in general is that we humans are the weakest link. It only takes one dumbshit to effectively combat billions of dollars worth of security practices by not doing their job right.
That is my problem with all this stepped up border security and special passports and the like. You can plan for years and implement all the security measures in the world, but there is always a way someone will get access to information they shouldn't if someone doesn't do their job, is corrupt, or disgruntled. /steps off soapbox

well, the alarm went off, but noone cared. she could have hidden an entire stash of firearms or explosives or just some knives... i find it quite ridiculous how much money is spent on bogus governmental anti terror measures if there are security holes left right and center that can never be patched anyway.

I once came across and ebay purchased item that had a list of user names and passwords and what they where used for. I did log into some of those accounts and confirmed they were still live. If I didn't care (or lived in the U.S.), I'd be rich. Then I formatted the device and went on my merry way.

Never knew that Nikon Coolpix cameras were state of the art spy devices.
I'll have to look into them.

Pssh ebay isn't the only place it happens.
I ordered a new PC from TigerDirect and when I popped in my XP Pro cd, I didn't hit the enter key in time... it said "Starting Microsoft Windows" WTF?!?! I popped the HD into an external case and found a /windows/ directory on the drive. one BartPE session later I had a 100% functional key for MS 2003 server business edition! (and though I've not tested it, I have reason to believe it may be a mass-distribution key) I contacted TigerDirect and they didn't even ask me for the key, they just told me to reformat the drive and be on my way. So now "New" no longer means "New" it CAN mean "used"! QC means nothing these days...

But seriously, doesn't this smack of ineptitude if it's not intentional? If selling the thing was an accident, then confirming to a friggin' reporter to tell everyone just how big of a mistake it was? Counterintelligence is far more likely.

Here in SoCal there is tight security, badges, confrontations of your someone your don't recognize or phone passwords/safe-words. Yet we have gardeners and janitorial staff that are contracted out, that most of the time aren't even US citizens and they can pass through security check points unharassed because no one wants to either look like a racist or doesn't want to deal with someone who doesn't even both to learn the English language and all you have to do is have dark skin and mumble some Spanish. Note the Mexican workers really don't look that much different from people of middle eastern decent, good times.

Did I mention, secure buildings with no wireless network access for safety get audited by say E&Y who set up ad-hoc or wireless networks to share the internet between their laptops and that wireless network is plugged right into the secure buildings lan network, w00t.
I could go on and on about security holes that should be exposed so they are plugged, but I think these are all I can get away with.
