It's between DFI and ASUS now, so I'm sure some of you are in the same boat as me - wanting the ASUS but unsure of whether the release date is worth the wait.. so I present to you:

Hello and thank you for contacting us. The release date is supposed to be the end of Feb, so it will probably be available around the 1st week in March. I can send you an email when we have it online.

Pls merge w/ the X58 thread if opening this one doesn't sit well.

nice, finally matx getting some action.:) im a big asus fan boy so ill be getting one of those

Man, I wish it was cheaper. No way would I pay more then $200 for a CPU muchless for the damn mobo.

I am wondering what price the Asus board will come in at...a little competition can't hurt.

^ Mailed that question right after receiving the response. It better not be more than the DFI since they're virtually the same thing w/ different colors.

At least there will be competition. That will help keep prices from getting outrageous. I'll go out on a limb and predict the ASUS at a lower price. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

That wouldn't be going out on a limb at all. I would be very surprised if the ASUS launched with a larger price tag than the DFI. The do want people to buy their boards, don't they?

I wouldn't be suprised if it was the same or higher, especially considering the integrated x-fi.

man i look at this board almost everyday now lol
maybe i should sell the 9300 and wait for this sexy little beast :D

The LP JR is the second-least expensive X58 that offers SLI--the next-cheapest board costs $20 more.

If you won't pay $200 for a CPU or mobo, the X58/i7 in general is out of your market. If you wish not to wait another 6 months for the P55/i5, perhaps you should look into the Phenom II, as there are now four AMD 790 motherboards supporting AM3/DDR3.

I have no idea why you just jumped straight to the Phenom 2 when I can easily pick up DFI's P45 LP JR and a 755 Quad for damn cheap. The only thing I can think of is because the ones you suggested use expensive DDR3 which doesn't really make much difference.

Because LGA775 is being phased out and the P45 JR only does 8x PCI-e, even with just one card installed.

You're better off with a G45 if you want mATX and don't want an X58.

Not that the 8x will bottleneck at all, or are you saying a Crossfire setup is crappier than a 1card set up cuz of that 8x? C2Q still > AM2+/3 after all these years... kinda laughable:eek:

Just leave him alone, he knows what he wants and didn't ask for 2nd opinions.

Have you even read the latest Phenom II benchmarks? They've now matched/beaten the C2Qs, and are just a step below the i7 (and a shit-ton cheaper).

if you are barely matching c2q, you are far behind and nowhere close to i7... sorry but its the truth and im in no way a fanboy

Where is Phenom 2 beating any of them?

Where is Phenom 2 even getting anywhere close to i7 and beating C2Q?

WHERE?
You proclaim that I haven't looked at the benchmarks- if I haven't looked at the benchmarks then you must be making them up.

Take your warcry somewhere else.

Warcry? I don't even own either CPU. Touché.

Notice how, as resolution increases, the gap between the CPUs decreases.

LULS. Synthetics. Synthetics are all AMD have been known for. Fact that high resolutions games aren't as CPU dependent is a given. And I'll take Kyle's word and tests over other sites (go look at his Far Cry 2 chart again kthx), unless of course you're saying Kyle's methodologies are bullshit, in which case you're welcome to take it to him.

Plz just go away if you've got nothing else to contribute, this thread isn't for you to spazz out on Intel. Read the thread title again. Yes, it's got absolutely nothing to do with AMD until you dropped the bomb. Leave us alone so the rest of us can once again resume drooling over this board and speculating on prices :)

Hey, I'm drooling over this board with the rest of you. My original post was directed toward the guy who thought X58 boards and i7 CPUs were too expensive, so I suggested a less expensive alternative.

It's no secret that Kyle's PH II review has been called into question on just about every thread on every forum pertaining to the subject, as the results he has come up with are substantial outliers compared to the dozens of other reviews of these CPUs. Google kyle or hardocp and phenom ii review and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I don't have anything on Intel vs AMD personally. I'd rather stick with what I kind of know (Intel) but I'm open to change. That being said, I don't know about hardocp's methodology, but what I sure know is that a guy who presents n pages of charts about 640x480 framerates is either a) an idiot, b) someone who hasn't used a computer since the DOS days c) someone who only presents what suits him (let's just hope that it's c). That is the most ridiculous thing ever. At least Far Cry 2 is getting all the resolutions.

And like you all, I'm looking forward to that Asus X58 board.

the topic is ASUS Rampage II X58 mATX ETA, lets try and keep it that way ;)

Update on pricing.... prepare to Q.Q

Hi ME-

We do not have a price yet. I will let you know when we do. A highly anticipated board, I hope Asus has most of the bugs out of it before release!

Melissa

Highly anticipated only means one thing in my mind... jacked up pricing!

They'd better not - DFI didn't hike their P45 and X58 boards out of proportion even though both were and are the only ones of their kind (hei, the Gene isn't released yet). Respect, yo! *gangsign*.

Well, as far as price gouging goes I'd be more worried what NewEgg sells it for in the first week or two than what ASUS suggests it should be sold for. NE is nortorious for price gouging on a very popular product with little supply in the beginning. We'll have to wait and see what happens I guess.

It's only fair/logical that one should pay up if one wants to be among the first. Don't you agree? Nothing new there, really.

Yes and no. I mean if they were to mark it up a little bit then, yes, I'm okay with that but I have seen them go really nutsy with the pricing at times with a new CPU, or mobo. Not to mention some other products but thats how supply and demand works in a free market economy.

Thing is it's not the first. If they gouge it Above & Beyond there's nothing to stop us from throwing the cash at the wildly available DFI (which also happens to have 8 fan headers :D), which really aside from colors are the same boards with different colors. I'm sure ASUS wouldn't like that to happen.

I thought I had read about Firewire on the Asus and/or eSata. Did I dream it?

but is that still a better option than the realtek onboard sound? I haven't used a separate sound card since the Socket A days so I truly don't know what the difference is.

ADA makes pretty good audio chips, best I've heard... the problem is is that their drivers kind of suck and are never updated.

A few more pictures and info.. plus the quote from above..

This is sure to be my next board, if you were to do sli or crossfire with dual slot cards.. wouldnt the front panel connections get blocked? along with everything else on the bottom?
