TPB’s Peter Sunde Discusses the Site’s Future

Since the hot topic of the day seems to be TPB being sold for just under $8 million, I think this interview with Peter Sunde will be of interest.

Quote:
What’s Next managed to secure a recorded audio interview with The Pirate Bay’s Peter Sunde. In it Peter says why the site was sold, talks a little about the future for the site and touches on the huge disappointment being expressed by the site’s fans. It’s a very interesting interview, although in common with everything else going on today, it raises even more questions.

They should go to the RIAA and the MPAA I'm sure they'd be more than willing to pony up the bucks to get their user base

I'm actually surprised the media industry did not buy TPB for this info... it would be a golden goose for them.

Has any one heard of this company, Global Gaming Factory X? it seems made up solely as a publicity stunt. Even if this is the hot topic of the day its rather boring just like Napster.

Never heard of them myself. But after a quick Google search I found the PDF of the Press Release: http://www.globalgamingfactory.com/p...ase-090630.pdf

Provider of internet gaming cafe's?

Meh I never really understand the idea of those cafe's, mostly because they never made many inroads in the states.

i used TPB quite often but i never used it for anything those two would use against me, it'll be sad to see TPB leave, it was nice having a torrent search you could use that wouldn't turn up 99% pron and 1% usable links

For those of you saying "RIP TPB", I'll just paste my post from the other TPB thread:

Too many ignorant comments here.

Let's clear up some facts:
- TPB has been in the ownership of an anonymous company not affiliated with the PB crew since 2006; the new owner is going to be running with the same conditions, but will have money to throw solely at further developing TPB. It's due time that TPB had solid financial foundations to anchor itself.
- the original crew stays (brokep, anakata, TiAMO, etc), but as far as I know, will have paid workers helping with such things as engineering.
- the sale was mostly for decentralization purposes; making it harder to persecute users, and harder to persecute the people running the site.
- the money from the sale will go to a foundation which will pay for new projects and developing further protocols for general freedom of the internets. anakata has stated that if TPB does die (mainly because the users are having knee-jerk reactions), they'll take that money and make a better sharing website, which they could do regardless.
- their ideologies are as strong as ever - they are not selling them out. they have stated they will step up the activism for freedom of the internet and copyright reform.
- TPB is not becoming a paysite
- TPB is not Napster
- TPB is not removing any torrents
- TPB is not closing down

tl;dr, sale is good. Expect a TPB that is impossible for the MAFIAA to take down. Expect a new site design and tracker and, soon enough, a new transfer protocol. Perhaps it will be truly anonymous

Internet cafe is a huge hit in poorer countries and populated countries like Korea and China. Singapore had tons of them too when I was there.

Internet cafe had a chance back when the internet was still new, but as with televisions, houses and cars, American tend to buy their own, so internet cafe never really took off here.
