Idiotic Quote of the Day
Bragging about “eliminating a whole bunch of U.S. jobs” and literally replacing them with two people in India might not be the best way to win people over.

That's the kind of thing you sneak into the 10th page of a 10 page report. You don't go announcing that to people.

Yeah I'm like totally calling those guys up when I need engineers. Yeah right.

I wish we could stop companies from doing this legally or stop them from operating in our Country like this. Workers in the US are getting stomped on.

It is disgusting how publically he flaunts this. I'm on the verge of creating a gmail account just to email this story to as many unions/organizations as possible.

I'm all for globalization, but this is a huge thumb-your-nose at us.

They have some joint events with Microsoft concerning Windows 7, Server 2008. Someone who is attending needs to be at whatever main Q&A they have and call them out with this.
The irony of it all is they're presenting to people they will "kind of replace with 2 people in India."

Yep, and I keep hearing about how there's this huge shortage of "qualified" tech workers in the US. Never mind that it's rarely been shown to be truly more economical to outsource work overseas. I get so tired of these kinds of companies disregarding local talent that could be trained and kept on as resources. I'm all for a global economy and agree with policies like importing "some" foreign workers to remain competitive, but I'm questioning myself more and more as to why I bothered getting an engineering degree. You go to college with the hopes of making a difference in the world and being able to support yourself, at least, then stuff like this happens.

Don't let them give you the "global economy" line either. The only reason they're cheaper is because its cheaper to live there. This sucker aught to get his job offshored in retaliation. I'm certain you can find a ruthless bean counter over seas that can run an abacus faster than he can count.

The problem is that I am not stupid, I understand that:
Paying someone $68 an hour to assemble cars in the U.S. ...can't beat... Paying someone $68 a month to assemble cars in China (automobiles used as a reference) But, I really don't need / like some guy flaunting the fact that he can "eliminating a whole bunch of U.S. jobs.” and then expect me to use his company for anything...ever. ![]()

Unisys (two weeks from now): "We kinda outsourced all of Marcello for a guy in the US with an off switch on the line between brain and orifice."

LOL .. If someone was actually able to follow up on this claim .. I'll bet it's a load of horseshit. Especially related to the amount of effort it takes to keep these two guys in india productive.

They're also targeting Europe, but it's slower going as they're somewhat protected by law and unions. I'm no big fan of unions, but I don't see multinational corporations looking out for anyone's best interests--besides their own. It wouldn't have to called a union, you could call it an association ala doctors, lawyers, etc... Same net result though. Re: the line about a shortage of qualified people, generally that's total BS. The company I work for already has plan in place for what to do when the Indians get to expensive, as well as plans on what to do when the Chinese follow suit. It's all about the cheapest, most disposable labor.

This article and subsequent thread reminds me of two things...
1) [H] forum thread on cloud hosting 2) Various discussions and news articles extrapolate the off-shoring spiral; as off-shoring changes from country to country in a downward spiral search of lower wages, when and where will the bottom be hit?

Sure they have done it and I am sure that it works. But how well it works is another story. Richard Marcello can BS anyone he wants to about this. But I want to here from someone at Unisys that works with the system to see how well support works in that environment. Do the 2 people in India ever sleep or get time off?
