$99 Dedicated Twitter Gadget?
A stand alone Twitter device? If any of you ever catch me with one of these, you’d better kick my ass (and take my lunch money while you are at it).

So for $99, you get a device the size of a phone that does nothing other than twitter? Gee, how would you like to carry around another useless device in your pocket?

I can't figure out who is Peek's target audience for this device. It seems like all smart phones these days have twittering capability along with others like facebook, etc. Why have a device especially for Twitter? same for Peek's email only device.
Maybe grandparents that don't know how to use a cellphone would want to twitter and email too on a dedicated device.

Lets think outside the box, we know we don't want it for it does but can we make it do something we want? We need some hardware bender to get it and make it useful!

I was going to post that you know there are plenty of dumb people to spend $99 on one of these. But then again, a lot of the people that probably use twitter have some sort of mobile device or are around PC's and internet quite often.
How is twitter making money again?

With the budget cutting we did this year out went the expensive cell plans. I've been comfortably been using pageplus cellular pay-go (they use Verizon network) and getting by on like $5 a month or so. I really don't yammer on the phone much and I can survive for mobile internet needs on wi-fi access points. With this gadget there are no expensive data plans. So you can tweet to your heart's desire without paying expensive data plans. For me that would be very useful. Kind of like the Kindle doesn't have a monthly fee. That said I think twitter is stupid and there's no way I'd buy such a device ![]()

How much do you usually carry for lunch money? I only ask because some people just aren't worth the effort...

The first thing I thought of when I saw this wasn't, "What a waste, I can't believe someone would spend $100 when a cell pho..."
My first thought was, "This thing could make someone some money." Like it or not, twitter is in the news weekly in some shape or form, if not daily. It is less than a cell phone and puts social media in a kid's pocket. I could see grandparents getting this for their digibrats for Christmas. If I could make money selling "I heart Paris Hilton" wristbands made with real Chihuahua fur, I would (as long as the fur was harvested humanely). I'm not a fan of Ms. Hilton, but to quote Idiocracy, "I like money."

An iPhone 3G is already a $99 dedicated Twitter device... and a *lot* more like a monthly bill.

but if it's a *lot* more, wouldn't it NOT be a dedicated Twitter device?

Twitter is for morons with nothing better to do than proclaim how big of a turd they've just produced. I hate twitter. It's one of those services that is a problem looking for a solution when everyone knows the solution is to kill it. Having a dedicated twitter device only adds the insult to the injury of being a twitter user, so why advertise that you are a twittering moron? Hell, most WinMo phones already have a twitter front end client and if not then at least web access to get to this shitty excuse for a service.

Mine's pretty dedicated. I mean it greets me when I wake up, does my laundry, whispers sweet nothings in my ear. And when I get out of the loony bin I'll be able to use it for phone calls! haha
