PayPal Could Soon Overshadow Parent eBay

Paypal could soon overshadow eBay? Wow, that is rather impressive when you think about it.

Quote:
But soon, eBay's biggest business will likely be PayPal, the online payments service that has been growing steadily even as the economy has stumbled. EBay has spent much of the past two years trying to improve its faltering marketplace business, hoping to increase buyers' trust and clean up the look of its Web site. In the meantime, PayPal has thrived as more consumers and merchants use it to send money online.

makes sense to me... ebay's been on a steady decline for quite some time. they'll probably be overshadowed by HardOCP before too long.

Ebay rapes people for fees even worse than paypal does. I sold a computer there and paid like $150 in final value fees, $20 in listing fees, and then another $100 for the paypal fee.

Never again.

I sold a graphics card for $221.11 and final fees was $19.90 while listing fees was $1.50 mind you i didn't use any fancy shit to promote my item, and that day they even had free insertion fees so go figures. That is $21 gone down the crapper before even the paypal rape. So total was $28 gone to ebay's revenue.

It's even worse if you sell a game console on eBay because they mandate a MAXIMUM $15 shipping charge, no matter what your auction is. So I just sold off an XBOX 360, a shit load of games, accessories and whatever. Ended up having to ship in 3 boxes and it cost $45 to ship, but I only got $15 for it. Yeah and then there were $30 in fees. They should rename it to eRape.

I'd rather sell my items here at a premium then hand free money over to a big corporation with horrendous customer service.

No thanks ebay...

The FS forum is my freedom from Ebay most of the time.

I still buy there, but rarely do I sell. I just listed my first item months. I've about about a dozen trades/sales here.

selling here works well for tech stuff, but what about everything else like ebay has? ive tried to use overtsock.com, and other auction sites... none seem to have even a fraction of the traffic ebay has. i wish craigslist had national classified listings, to directly compete with ebay. i wouldnt mind if they charge a small fee, i understand that a company must make money, but american corporations have the ideal of continuous growth at all costs.... forever. balance is considered horrible, and only unrealistic progress is expected. there is no way ebay needs to charge as much for what they do, i would bet 95% of the final total you give ebay on any sale is pure profit for them. they would still make a killing if they just charged $1 for every $100 worth of goods sold, flat fee. im not a company though, just a customer so of course im wrong.

Smashing my genitalia with a hammer > using PayPal

"Buyers trust" indeed. Buy, pay, state a claim you never got the item, keep it and get the money back, guaranteed.

Not gonna happen. eBay is owner of 25% of CL.

AMEN...

I have been completely ROBBED twice using this tactic... I very rarely will accept paypal payments without tons of feedback.

I no longer sell on ebay because of the fees and bullshit associated with it.

I like craigslist for the no hassle / quick transactions it usually has... once you come to an agreement it's easy. But it usually takes a few emails with a bunch of people before that happens.

I don't mind using paypal here for selling, I just verify heat and haven't had any issues...

you ship with a tracking number and it immediately invalidates this claim. I have never lost a claim that i had a dc/tracking number for.

i have never had an issue with paypal.

ebay on the other hand...the fees are getting rediculous, but at the same time i don't know how you guys praise craigslist so much. I hate craigslist with a passion due to the sheer amount of asshats on there. They either don't respond, flake, scam, and talk like they are in fucking kindergarten. I end up using ebay anyway just because it automates transactions and requires less time dealing with cold phone calls, or one sentence emails in all capital letters.

Yea craigslist can be a pain, but when it works out, it's awesome. So much nicer to get cash and not deal with shipping anything.
