Fortune Crowns Steve Jobs 'CEO of Decade'

While he may not be a philanthropist like Gates or cuddly like The Woz, say what you want about Steve Jobs, no one can deny what he has done for Apple in the last decade.

Quote:
Fortune traced "the decade of Steve" back to 1997, when Jobs returned to Apple's helm and took the California company on a course that gave the world iPhones, iPods, and increasingly popular Macintosh computers.

Seeing Steve Jobs and "philanthropy" in the same sentence always elicits a chuckle.

Steve Jobs without question has singlehandedly increase my Apple stock to levels i didn't think possible and has made me very comfy. So have Gates and Ballmer.

I could see there being a better CEO in the world that should have this title more...

like someone who has worked all there life for the same company and makes a small fraction of income that Steve makes,

as much as I hate apple, I have to give credit where it is due. jobs has done more than his fair share of pushing apple into the spotlight.

in all honesty? I would hate to see him go from apple. apple needs steve jobs. and the sheep who worship him need him even moreso. and i'm not talking the average mac user or ipod owner. i'm talking about the people who truly are part of some cult-like mindset that rivals actual religion.

Can't disagree with this. May not like Apple's business practices and such but Jobs is a business genius. Can't deny that.

He really brought the company back into the public eye, and you can't argue with his results, regardless of what you may think of Apple's products.

On the other side of the coin, no matter what he has done for Apple, Steve Jobs is a complete dick.

It is true. He has taken a company that should probably not even exist and found ways for them to flourish.

From the keeping-the-stockholders-happy standpoint Steve Jobs is great at his job, but from the decent human being standpoint? Not so much.

Ohh come on. This is a financial advice magazine. They practically worship capitalism and he who makes the most money in capitalism is next to godly as far as Fortune is concerned. It's not about how much good you do for the world, its about how much you grossed last year, increased your personal networth and/or that of your company. Environment, friends, politics, homeless, socially rejected be damned.

Yeah no denying what he has done, but then you have the issues of, if he is well Apple is well, if he goes to hospital everyone panics and the stock takes a dump, no one should have that kind of influence over a companies prosperity or downfall, nor should everyone pin there hopes on the figurehead of a company, they come and go.

How does that make a person a "better CEO"???? If you're not making any money, you're obviously not doing a very good job.
