Google May Lose WSJ, News Corp Sites
I just want to go on the record and say that this could be the worst idea ever. Old man Murdoch wants to remove his web sites from Google AND start charging for site access at the same time? Wow, that is like a one-two self knock out punch if I ever saw one.

How exactly is google ripping them off? By providing snippets of content in a search or something?

I think he should do it, watching his news company go down the pan, would send a message to the other companies thinking of the same model.

Further proof the "old white men" who run our corporations have NO idea how technology like the Internet works.

I love the last line:
"Or are they just afraid to pull the trigger?" Well, most people are a little afraid when they're about to shoot themselves ![]()

Oh yeah, His site may as well not exist after He does that, As eventually Who'll remember that His website even exists, Sure He can charge people to see what is there, But Who will even see It? If It ain't found in a Google Search, It may as well not exist.

This bit of self-pwnage could actually trump Ted Stevens' rant about "a series of tubes".

i think these people are nuts.
1. the only reason i visit WSJ is when an article is listed on: fark.com google.com news 2. other than that their news paper and site is not any better than alot of other online free alternatives. why read a WSJ re-written article when i could read the same article made up by another author for free?

I'm thinking this pre-announcement is to try and get other news companies to do it at the same time. Since he can't just ask them to all change their models (collusion) all he can do is this pre-announcement to see if there is any interest in actually proceeding. I'm sure he knows that if he were to actually proceed with de-listing himself off Google he would be in a world of hurt unless the other news makers join him at the same time.
I'm hoping he actually goes through with it though The news world definitely needs to be shaken up
