Computer ‘Virus’ Is Born 26 Years Ago Today

The computer virus has only been around 26 years? Sure seems like a lot longer than that, doesn't it?

Tech Gone Bad 1983: Fred Cohen, a University of Southern California graduate student, gives a prescient peek at the digital future when he demonstrates a computer virus during a security seminar at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. A quarter-century later, computer viruses have become a pandemic for which there’s no inoculation.

All you have to do is practice "Safe Software".

Shit I created one by accident back in 1982 or so.
I was a little tyke (10)? And I was farting around with my Atari 800 and 6502 assembly language. I was modifying the disk operating system to do something with the directory layout or something. Anyways, I screwed it up, and it not only hosed up DOS (in memory) but every disc it touched would screw it up as well. Luckily I was smart enough to reformat everything.

Too bad the virus is not what it once was. It's "work" is being overtaken by malware/spyware (ex. Antivirus 20xx) variants.

No inoculation? Maybe if you are one of those "users" who clicks on absolutely everything on the internet and opens up every attachement in your e-mail without thinking...

Sure there are a few out there that can give you trouble, but if you afre smart about it.. have a good AntiVirus program and a good anti-malware program you really don't have to worry about Viruses or other malware.

Now if Norton and Symantic, etc would just go away... as they are useless pieces of garbage, we would all be a lot better off.
