Shifts in the Top 500 Supercomputer List
There have been a few changes in the Top500 list of supercomputers after a Cray XT5 supercomputer called "Jaguar" finally wrestled the number one spot away from IBM’s “Roadrunner.”

Of course a Jaguar beat a RoadRunner. They should name the next one after a faster animal.
Cheetah, Tuna, Peregrine Falcon?

Especially since I'm reading that Jaguar is now running 6-cores for every processor they have implemented in this computer. Wow hex came early before we could get our stinking hands on it.

It's pretty remarkable that a couple single core systems are still on the Top 500. It's a pretty good bet they won't when the next list comes out.

dunno.... they probably could pick up a few hundred more (now dirt cheap) singlecore CPU to add to the cluster...

Didn't AMD release their 6 core opteron processor back in June or so? Intel having released their hex core Xeon processors before that?

Oh ya. I guess I was thinking of the desktop market hexacore processors that's yet to be released. You're right.

But I have a feeling that despite the bad economy, many more systems are going to enter the list and kick those 2 single-core systems out. That said, I don't know where in the top 500 those 2 single core systems ranked. If in the top 400, then they won't get kicked out anytime soon. But if in the 400s ... bye bye, single cores!
