ASUS Shatters Netbook Conventions with Eee PC 1201N
Multimedia-minded consumers who prize the portability of netbooks but lament the typical lack of processing muscle now have a reason to rejoice. ASUS has launched the Eee PC™ 1201N, a multimedia netbook sporting an Intel® Atom™ 330 dual core processor and an NVIDIA® ION™ graphics processor that delivers a level of performance never before seen on netbooks. Is this even a "netbook" anymore?

no joke. 12 inches is the max id go on any note/netbook at this point, but im not sure if just having an nvidia ion and atom proc in a notebook form factor qualifies it as a netbook.

Low powered laptop. For multimedia, it needs more balls than the Atom 330.

I thought Intel didn't want us to have a dual core Atom in our netbooks?
I guess with AMD moving into the netbook scene Intel brings in the dual core Atom.

I think netbook is only defined by price now...and even then...

Ignoring the 12" size, it is a netbook b/c it has no optical, uses that horrible atom processor. I went to Bestbuy a couple of days ago and went to check the WEI for a Z520 Atom and it was 2.2, plus just clicking in Windows 7 was slow. I'd rather get one of those Celeron SU2300 (dual-core) CULV laptops even if it only has Intel X4500 gpu. Of course, by the definition of netbook, the 13" CULV are netbooks because they have no optical.

My Asus EasyStore H340 is my HTPC and it uses an Atom 270.

Anybody think "Stone Soup" with these netbooks?
I can make a good soup from a couple of stones...but let's add some carrots, potatoes, and some beef to add flavor.

Now if you said it needs more balls for gaming, then yeah that's true, but it can definitely handle multimedia.

Without addons, probably.A lot of addons are memory hogs and/or have memory leaks.

Now if they could keep all the stats the same but make the screen 10" or less it would be a nice little device.

Tell that to my nettop that plays 1080P blu-rays with 5% CPU utilization. My dad has an Atom 270 Revo running his entire multimedia system. Nettop/Netbooks were made for multimedia IMO.

The Celeron SU2300 is a better/fasted CPU the dual core Atom. I bought the Acer 1410 model than comes with the SU2300, and the 11.6" screen for only $399. Only 3 pounds, comes with 64 bit Vista home premium and includes VGA & HDMI out. It has played every video I've thrown at it, except for 1080p flash (not enough CPU), however that should be fixed once the new version of flash is released. 1080p looks great when plugged into the TV HDMI port. Uses about 40%-60% CPU when playing a bluray rip at a full 1080p over the HDMI. Even sends audio over the HDMI.

I have a hard time rationalizing this machine as a netbook... I guess its mostly because i have a EEE1000HE and i consider that to be one of the milestone netbooks out there... I can get 8 hours of real use out of it if i crank the brightness down and dont do anything to tax the HDD. In fact, if i had the money, i would put a ssd in there for that little boost of speed and power saving... I think this would be closer to a low powered laptop... If they actually made it for the same price i paid for my 1000HE...id probably buy one...and try to find a 9 cell battery for it

Wait, the 750GB Hybrid Storage is a joke. really. Well I have a notebook with 4TB+ of storage too since I can connect to my network and store things "online" What a fucking scam. Just say it has a 250GB HDD. Don't add your stupid online storage size as it's not always going to be accessible.
