Facebook Becomes Third Most Popular Video Site

Seriously? Facebook is now the third most popular video site behind YouTube and Hulu? You’d think it would be one of the big sports sites or news portals but it isn’t. Oddly enough, MySpace didn’t even make it onto the list.

According to Nielsen, the amount of time Web users spent viewing videos on social-networking sites increased 98 percent year over year. In October 2008, users watched 503.8 million minutes of video; they watched 999.4 million video minutes in October this year. That growth far outpaced growth in number of online video streams as a whole, which grew 26 percent year over year.

I wasn't aware Facebook had their own video site. They just link YouTube or other site's video. I think they should be disqualified in this survey.

You can upload videos to Facebook. At third place with only 217k total streams (vs. YouTube's 6.6M), I would be surprised if they included linked content in the FB numbers.

There were only 105 million unique viewers to youtube in october? That seems incredibly low. In fact... if you divide the 6.6 billion streams by the 105 million unique viewers... that's over 62,000 streams per unique viewer.

Nice. So who here watched 62,000 youtube videos in october?

I didn't know Facebook had videos, either. Other than the linked ones.... And 105 million unique viewers does seem very low.

i barely even see my friends in facebook upload videos on facebook. But yeah like everyone said, they probably counted the linked videos.

It looks like we both messed up on the 000 units: 6.6G / 100M = 66 views per user.

Those denominators get you every time.

I guess once you spend the time to upload your stats, vids , connection with family, friends. FaceBook owns you. Who wants to start over again.
