Google Adding Automatic Captions to YouTube Videos

I think it is pretty damn cool that Google has decided to add automatic captions to YouTube videos. It is as easy as creating a text file with all the spoken words in the video and Google’s speech recognition technology does the rest.

Quote:
Because the speech-recognition technology is still a work in progress, Google is launching the automatic captioning service on the YouTube channels of just a handful of partners, including PBS, National Geographic and a few big universities. But the company promises that the technology will improve over time — and it hopes for a much broader rollout.

Does anyone else watch "the feed" section on Attack of the Show? It seems [H] gets 80% of their news posts from this segment. This is one of them, Google captions is another, and several more.

Do you watch Attack of the Show on your lunch break, Steve?

Good, my hearing isn't as good as it used to be, sometimes I miss what is being said in a movie/video.

I think I need to buy hearing aids.

I can't wait to see the captions on videos that have people speaking with accents. Otherwise, good job google, if the captions are right.

This remind anyone of the guy who is suing Sony for lack of support for deaf gamers?

While it might not directly be related, it's great that Google is so proactive.

It's smart even from the marketing perspective that they will attract more viewers who have hearing impairments.
