Microsoft Denies it Built 'Backdoor' in Windows 7

Microsoft has flat out denied the existence of a “backdoor” in Windows 7 saying that the NSA only helped in the development of its Security Compliance Management Toolkit and nothing else. Did anyone actually think that the backdoor rumor was actually true?

Quote:
Microsoft today denied that it has built a backdoor into Windows 7, a concern that surfaced yesterday after a senior National Security Agency (NSA) official testified before Congress that the agency had worked on the operating system. "Microsoft has not and will not put 'backdoors' into Windows," a company spokeswoman said, reacting to a Computerworld story Wednesday.

Go to slashdot.org or digg.com, those guys will believe anything if it's bad for MS.

I can just imagine ,Steve, what would happen if Microsoft admitted as much. Good movie material. Hope Cameron reads this site.

Well I think that even if MS did put in a back door for the NSA, they certainly wouldn't say anything about it even when asked.

Hasn't this rumor floated with every MS release of the last 15 years?

You need another way to get into somebody's Nifty Doorways 7 PC? As if there weren't already a bunch of ways to enter. If somebody in the government wants your information, they're going to get it. They will, speaking from personal experience, knock on your door, show their badge, and walk in before you can even put your pants on.

hmmm

Puts a pause into the purchasing decisions of other nations and corporations.

Why would you even risk it on anything sensitive?

Big boost for linux?

I'm pretty sure the NSA doesn't need a backdoor made for them. In fact, they may even use the OS, and would want to make sure it is secure. Any internet activity can be traced provided the people doing the tracing have enough patience, time, money, and authority to request (or take) info from ISPs.

IBM, Intel and AMD have backdoors hardwired into the chip design as well. Well if they don't they should. It seems a waste of time to have a backdoor in Windows when the OS can be easily changed. You can't do the same CPUs.

Hellz yes there is one there and only MSFT and NSA know about it.
Any way to get a military advantage on computers world wide is a must for the US.

If there was a backdoor built into the OS how would we detect it and / or prevent it from being exploited?

Why do you need a back door when the front door is always wide open?

You wouldn't be able to find it let alone be able to fix it because they are the fucking National Security Agency. They are one step away from being able to light people on fire with their minds.

And why exactly would you need a backdoor into a CPU? There's nothing in there to see.

Wouldn't a backdoor essentially make it less secure anyway? Since a hacker could always find it and exploit it.

Duh, of course they don't have a backdoor. This isn't Microsoft Doors 7. It's Windows 7.

They have a back window!

;-)
