Magic Mouse Drivers for Windows Now Available

Do you have a hankering to use Apple’s Magic Mouse and its multitouch capability but don’t want to switch to a Mac? Well, someone heard your plaintive cries and hacked Apple’s recent Bluetooth update in order to make Windows drivers for the Magic Mouse. Oh, joy! Rapture!

Quote:
So you like Apple’s fancy Magic Mouse? Its a beautiful piece of engineering with an insane price tag of $70. Problem is, even at $70, it only works on Macs leaving Windows users in the dust. But thanks to a hidden update here is how you get this little guy to work in Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7.

Took me about 30 seconds of using one to conclude that this thing is form over function. Not a big surprise.

What gets me is the fact that M$ has always had Mac drivers for their hardware... yet Apple refuses to release PC drivers for all of theirs..

ya apple that most mac users think Apple is the end all of hardware, so they will use appole hardware only. Most Mac users don't like to tinker with their machines like PC users, and would remain with the default stuff.

I'm interested in trying it out. Dunno if I'll like it, but I'd definitely want to give it a try.

I never thought that I would need a driver for that. I guess that I need it if I want to buy the 27" Mac and run Win7 on it.

This seems promising. Plus, it's not an Apple product.

Or if you want to use the Magic Mouse with your PC.

Gag. Apple makes great products, great keyboards, great interfaces especially on their notebooks, but they can't nail a mouse to save their lives. Multitouch is cool and everything but now they removed the middle and side buttons, something I use all the time to trigger Expose and Spaces. I'll stick with the Steelseries mice I use on my Mac and my PC.

This driver update really doesn't work very well from my experience, and aside from the cool touch scroll, the tracking on this mouse can't hold a candle to any logitech mice.

Counter-gag. I'd actually rather use an Apple mouse than one of those absurdly-ridiculous looking things. Maybe not the Mighty Mouse, no, but the Magic Mouse isn't too bad.

"Gamer" products have always been a constant source of amusement for me.

I'd rather use my $20 MS wireless laser mouse than use a $70 mouse from apple (or anyone else).

I know what you're saying, EXTREME gamer type products usually suck bigtime (Razer, I'm looking right at you).

Steelseries mice are by no means "flashy" or gag-inducing.

Clean, simple, unassuming, and they're great. Their new laser mice track better than any Apple, MS, Creative, or Logitech mouse that I've ever used. They're great.

Believe me, I want to like the Magic Mouse because of the multitouch functions but the removal of two buttons means I gotta use something else, not unless they build in other means to trigger Expose and Spaces.

I agree with you. As bad as Mighty Mouse it, I'm used to it and it works fine but now with all the buttons removed it's probably even worst. While I haven't tried the new mouse I can see myself not enjoying it. Apple never made a good mouse and I think it has to do with preferring form over function

I have to say their keyboards are also useless. Their current keyboard looks good but the lack of function buttons rule them out for me

If there is one thing that Microsoft does very well it's their keyboard and mouse. I haven't tried Logitech but I've heard good things about them

No thanks, I'll stick with Logitech. Tried just about everything else out there and I keep going back. My G9 does well for me now.

I partly disagree in that I think Apple's USB keyboards are fantastic. I grew to love keyboards with low-profile scissor keys after typing on my MBP so much. Lower travel means faster typing and quicker easier button presses for gaming. I tried the Razer Lycosa as well, also with low profile scissor keys, and unfortunately it was garbage. I now use the Apple keyboards on both my Mac and my PC and think they're great.

And they have function keys all along the top, F1 to F19. Did you mean something else like their Bluetooth keyboard? That one is so-so. Great keys but its missing the numpad. Gotta have a numpad. Oh well, it fits well in your lap which is fine for the living room, but I wouldn't do any real work on it.

Its unfortunate that Apple's mice are bleagh. Best notebook trackpad, IMHO the best notebook keyboard, my favorite desktop keyboard, and a crap mouse. WTF?

On a side note, my PC keyboard was a G15 for a very long time. Its pretty good, just massive. If I wasn't so lazy I would have used the macro keys more. Oh well, I'm happier with the Apple keyboard I replaced it with. Again, shorter button presses are better for gaming and typing for me. I wish there were more options outside of Apple's and Razer's. I think Logitech also makes one that's around $80.
