Why are you trying to flash an MSI 5900XT to a 5950 when it only has 2.8ns RAM modules?

Well i probably dont know what i'm talking about but, dont you have to have a 59XX series card that is able to run 5950 core and RAM speeds in order to flash it to one? If so, your MSI 5900XT is not going to run 475/950. My Gigabyte 5900XT will only do around 450/810.

2.8ns = 350Mhz (700MHz DDR)

Some of the other 5900XT cards have higher speed RAM modules on them. For example the XFX 5900XT.

The bios flash trick your talking about is more for the 5900 non ultra than the 5900 XT/SE cards, which come with much lower rated ram than the standard 5900 does.

I have a 5900 flashed to 5950 Ultra and it pushes the ram on my card to the limit and my card has 2.2 nanosecond ram, I believe the actuall 5950 ultras ship with 2 ns ram.

The problem with running my particular card with a 5950 ultra has been some minor desktop artifacting while in windows, in gaming it doesn't affect it at all, but i did have to bump the memory timing down in coolbits to 925 to keep the desktop problem from rearing its ugly little head.

I would definately NOT suggest flashing an XT or SE 5900 based card to 5950 bios.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to impart some additional info for y'all. You can use a utility called nvFlash which has the option to save your video bios prior to a new flash, thus eliminating the need for hunting up one. Everything you need is on mvktech.net. Also the advice from peeps above is good. I wouldn't put that bios on that card either.
