web browsing on my linux box feels painfully slow. I have firefox on my windows comp and on my mandrake computer and windows browsing takes seconds while linux takes minutes. It's crazy slow. it seems like once the page finally loads surfing through it is pretty fast. It says resolving host alot and It took me 22 seconds to load google on my mandrake box with firefox and 2 seconds on firefox on my windows computer. Does anyone ahve any idea why this is happening? I'm in 1.5/768 dsl

one, check if you have ipv6 support enabled for your kernel. if so, it might be its trying to resolve IPv6 addresses, and your dns server is simply ignoring the request because it doesn't know how to respond. If you can, remove ipv6 support from your kernel. This could fix the problem. if you have ipv6 as a module, it might work to simply remove the mod, if not, recompile.

I know this can happen from experiencing it. I thought it was a problem with my isp, till I tried on a different comp, and it worked fine.
