I was considering purchasing a Maxtor 16MB cache sata150 300GB 7200rpm drive but I have had Maxtor drives fail on me in less than a year in the past. Have they gotten any better?

Your opinions are very much appreciated.

thx.

Honestly, they are all the same.**
People favor the ones they had good luck with. Everyone has bought hard drives and had them fail. And really, they all have about the same MTBF, it just depends if you've gotten burned by them. IMO anyway.

** Except IBM Hitachi. They are absolute fucking shit.

Thanks! Makes me want to sell my 400s now.

In my opinion, the key isn't so much which brand you buy, it's the type of case and cooling you have. If your drive is mounted correctly, and is properly cooled, it's chances of lasting a long time are much greater than if not.

There's nothing wrong with Hitachi drives. I'd choose them over WD and Maxtor drives if given the choice.
