So when will 128 MB of video ram REALLY not be enough?

well, just bought my 6800OC from BestBuy. The only thing that worries me about my purchase is the 128 mb of video ram...I would love to have 256, but thats just outside my budget...

If I am gaming on a 17 inch monitor, the highest i can go is 1280 by 1024.

So when do you think that at that resolution, and full AA and AF, I will need more video ram?

Has that time come already?

AF doesn't have anything to do with video card memory

so concentrate on resolution and AA

Doom3 is the most demanding game right now in terms of memory usage

that sucks...and thats with 128 MB?
I don't know of any GT's that have 128mb.. it's the bfg like yours.. I do 1280 with everything on very high and only a little AA/AF so it doesn't get too slow.. i've noticed a little stuttering sometimes with gunfire though like a lot of people

that doesn't have anything to do witih the amount of local video card memory

I ask because I remember getting the 128 MB GeForce 3 ti200, and the extra ram wasn't worth a damn.

then I got a ti4400 with 128 MB, and people were overclocking their ti4200's with 64 MB and getting better scores than me.

So this time, I figure the 128 MB card is cheapest, and im tired of shelling out extra cash for the extra ram...I have already unlocked the extra pipes on my card, so its essentially a GT without the nice extra 128 of DDR3...

the ASUS 6800 GT has 128 mb of DDR1 @ 700mhz. I'm not taking about the V9999 Gamer Edition, ASUS acctually makes a Geforce 6800 GT with 128 mb for $350. Oh and Rogue4mula, that must be your processor, it may be too slow so it's a bottleneck for the vidcard as I max out everything and Far Cry and Doom 3 run awsome at 1280 and pretty good at 1600. OC that 2.4C!!!!

its enough.. but are ya gonna be playing at 1600x1200? if not don't worry so much about it
