I was just over on the dell support forums and came across this post from a user and reply by a Dell moderator
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=38790

To sum up the post, the user was having backlight issues (in the corners) and was told by the moderator to contact dell support. Furthermore, the user was told that their lcd should be replaced by a new lcd, not refurbished one. Therefore this issue is a valid problem, and not something someone should have to "live with".

Thanks for linking me!

I bought one of these too and I am having issues as well. I sent an email to Dell Support as well. Here is what I sent to them.

Hi,

My name is Ivan Roberts and I purchased a Dell 2005FPW
Widescreen LCD from you guys and I have a problem with
backlight leakage on the LCD. Whenever I try to watch
a movie or play a video game on it I see bright light
patches in the four corners of the screen and even
worse in the top left hand corner. I would like to
replace this monitor with a brand new 2005FPW that is
not defective. I do not want to pay for the shipping
and I also do not want to lose productivity by not
having a monitor to work with. I was told on the Dell
Support Forums that this is a known issue and that
Dell would replace my monitor with a brand new unit
immediately since I just gotten mine on Dec. 1st. I
have some pictures I have taken with my digital camera
that I will link in this email.
My order number is xxxxxxxx and my customer number is
xxxxxxxxx.

This is the message board post:

These are the digicam pictures of the backlight
leakage:

Wow, I guess i am just lucky; my 2005FPW only came with 2 dead pixels...nothing else visibly wrong...anyway, good luck with dell support

hey guys,
That was my post on the Dell forums. One of the replies linked me over to these forums so here i am.

I called into support to get the replacement. In the future I will definitely just use [email protected] as recommended by the forums moderator to request a replacement if one is needed. The phone system is horrible and wastes huge amounts of your time going in circles. Seems like the issue is known to the email support people and it handled efficiently. The guy on the phone, after asking for my service ticket number 10 times which i don't have since it's just a monitor purchase, told me he's never heard of this issue. I told him it seems somewhat common online and that he probably will hear more about it.

Beautiful monitor aside from the back light issue.

Neway, new one is on the way, fingers crossed.
