Got to say I'm very thankful for the good things that have happened for me and my family during this year, and hanging with you good folks in these forums is one of them......:cool:

alas my feable attempts at Christmas poetry hacking
are sorely lacking compared to the following missive, which i feel duty bound to distribute

As utilities that build up the CPU speed
Clash with just the programs I need,
So up to the screen top the cursors they flew,
With a RAM full of memory and an expansion board too.

And then, in a twinkling I heard on the speaker,
The grinding of the hard drive growing much weaker.
As I tried to reboot and turn it around,
The attributes changed from blue into brown.

I hit the control, the alt, and delete.
The screen message it gave me, I cannot repeat.
It asked me to Ignore, Retry, or Abort.
It told me the parallel had become the comm port.

Its lights how they twinkled; its pixels how merry,
Its prompts were all scrambled, like a bowl full of cherries.
It sounded just like it wanted to blow;
The screen was suddenly white as the snow.

It scrolled its directory before my eyes
With programs I didn't even recognize.
It wouldn't see D:, it wouldn't see E:;
I couldn't get out of B: into C:.

Norton's tried to read it, finally finding the FAT;
But alas! The disk was faulty, and couldn't reformat.
Away flew the DBase; away flew the DOS-es;
Away flew the WordStar; right out with the Windows.

The spreadsheets were spreading; the footers were headings;
What once had been memory was close to forgetting.
When the grinding was over and the smoke had all cleared,
I looked at the hard drive; it was just as I feared.

The 600 meg wonder had crashed in the night;
I'll never be able to block out that sight!
So tell everyone you know to avoid my plight;
Back up your files! Merry Christmas! Good Night!

but i would like to add that i am orthodox and my real christmas in on january 6 or 7 (i cant remember lol) but i still get my presents on the 25th, and a little education for u all, our christmas isnt run over by the media or santa clause(we have a saint nicholas day), which i think is a good thing....im not too sure but its sounds bout right
 
to be fully honest - i wish our Christmastime were not so hell-bent on Santa Claus, and gifts and the same friggen Carols every year (except Bing Crosby :p ) I guess i'm starting to really feel like the media runs things (which many people would say "they are"), and i am starting to resent it. In some ways, i guess i'm starting to feel like Christmas is the McDonald's food of the holidays. One looks forward to it, because they remember how great it was as a kid, but as you start to get a bit older, you realize that it fills, but doesn't make you feel good.

It was actually kind of uplifting to read how your day of gifts is separate from your day of celebration.. kinda nice if you think about it. Now mind you, I'm no Scrooge. I do enjoy this holiday and its season as much as, and sometimes moreso than, the next person. But I almost feel like since the day after thanksgiving, i have been ruled by my list of who to shop for. and now that Christmas day is nigh, i can breathe a sigh of relief. Again, i'm no Scrooge, and i don't want to dismiss the festive joy, but for me something just doesn't feel quite right any more...

Ah well in any case i wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and / or a great / happy/ joyful <insert personal non-Christian winter holiday / solstice celebration here>

EXACTLY, the reason for the season has not changed just political correctness.
Thank God, that He sent Jesus Christ to be born into this world for us !!!

but I too wonder which dialect\language that was ;)
 
Well, I won't ask Tech Head as he is occupied with things of much more importance, but I'm intrigued now. And I'll be darned if I can search that. But I keep trying.

I feel awkward at wishing that Gentleman and his countrymen a Happy New Year now that we've brought it up, however I wish it just the same.

Just wish I knew which of the dialects to write it in. :(
 
Id assume former countrymen considering he's in Sheffield, England
but I think wishes for a Happy New year are exactly what the survivors need
of course not all they need, its heartening to see the world respondso emphatically with real aid in this crisis

unlike many crises in the past

You couldn't google it because its not a written language, and there are many different dialects, not to mention a few different ways to structure the sentence :D
