I'm going to build a machine soon, and figured I can keep the case looking nice and neat on the inside, with a bit of fanciness :)

So I was thinking about getting round IDE cables for the non-SATA drives that will be in my case. I thought all was good and dandy, until I read in this very forum "stay away from round IDE cables"

Why is that? Isn't there good ones?

never used them on hard drives, but i made my one for my cd-rw and dvd drives and they've been running fine for over 3 years now.

but they are supposed to be more susceptable for signals being induced into them because of the way the rounded cables are arranged or something

was never brave enough to actually cut the cables to round 'em but i've got 'em folded used 'em with my harddrives(ran great for 2 years) now its just for my dvd and havent had any problems...

I just recently switched to all rounded cables in my system... No problems so far, but I don't have any benchmarks for comparison either. If you buy high quality cables you should not have any problems.

some of the best around are round
in either PATA or SCSI, but they arent the cheap kind you see

these are just a few excerpts, I would highly advice that everyone give them a good read, there ARE good rounded ATA cables RD3XP Super Shielded
"RD3XP is made from ATA 100/133 High impedance flat cable cut into 8 layers of 10 cable wires, with a ground wire and signal wire alternatively, and folded in zigzag-piled so that each signal wire is surrounded by 4 ground wires."

but like their SCSI counterparts, they aint cheap, there are also high quality flat cables (you buy a $300 RAID card, and they dont ship you crappy PVC cables, they are either Teflon or Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO)

try this for fun (click a pic for an animated gif> http://www.vicstech.com/en/rd3xp/NoiseTest/ (hmmm seems to be timing out for me)

I use rounded IDE cables for my PATA and ATAPI drives without any problems.
