Shuttle SN95G5 and AMD Venice core...
Holy crap, this is what I get for not doing at least a little homework on parts before I order.
I actually had a Winchester already ordered, then someone told me to get the Venice because it was slightly better. Well shit, now I come to find out that the V2.0 of these cases is hit or miss with supporting the Venice cores. Yay me ![]() To make it even more enjoyable, I get to not have an RMA from Newegg and have to go directly to the manufacturers. I actually knew this ahead of time, but it still sucks that I have to go through so much just to get compatible parts. I hope Shuttle doesn't give me a hard time about replacing it with the V3 model, it's bad enough I'll probably have to cough up the shipping and wait god knows how long. Sucks to be me :\

Oh and btw...
I ordered a Saphire x800 AGP video card and it fits perfectly in there in case anyone is wondering.

Well damn...
looks like I've jumped the gun again. After further research, it seems some people have had great luck in having the Venice cores work by just hard resetting the CMOS. There is a convenience button on the back of these Shuttles which I had already tried and thought that was enough. Turns out I had to do it the old fashioned way using the motherboard jumper, and that worked out great! My lil Shuttle is up and running and I'm tweaking her now. Hope this helps someone out ![]()

Do you have to reset cmos every time you boot?

Nope, just did it one time and it's been booting every time as normal since.

You... You.... Big Monkey!
![]() I have V2,0 to and You scared me shitless I have it though with a Winnie. Works great. Anyways I've took 3000+ and 6800GT and 2x512 MB Crossair cass 2 TWINX. So CPU is( or was) enough for first time and idea is to get something stronger when prices go down. So newer type of CPU like Vennice or x2 would be great chpice. Or some FX CPU. You saying it doesn't work scared me. First step when upgrading CPU from newer generation is to find newer BIOS and flash mobo with old CPU and new BIOS that supports new CPU. Then set reset CMOS eneble in BIOS ad turn of PC. Then install new CPU and start. If it doesn't then first clear CMOS manualy and then fire up the engine. I've thought Everyone knowes it from a time of first Coppermines and BX mainboards ![]() Then most of a people sold their CPU's before flashing mobos with BIOS that supports new Coppermines ![]() Lucky some of them have had other systems as well and they've pulled their celerons to flash their mobos ![]() MD

Hah! Sorry!
![]() Ya I guess that is the first thing I should have done, but that was never the problem before when I've had to troubleshoot, so this time I just skipped that stepped all together. Trust me when I say I am definitely glad I was totally wrong and that they actually are compatible. Some people still actually do claim that it doesn't work for them, so I'm guessing maybe I got lucky? Whatever it may be, I'm up and running and I'll start benchmarking in a day or two. =]

I believe shuttle is doing a free trade up from the V1 and V2 of the SN95G5 to the V3, since the 1's and 2's have so many problems.

as u are aware the sn95 was brought out before the venice ceore therefore there may be inconsistancies with the newer amd cores

it is also amd fault,. whislst they was secretly designing the venice, san diego , x2 cores, they nvidia only provided us with their nf2/3 chipset (which they vierified as ok with current core they was also provided and limited information )... all info provided was for their own current newcastle, winnie cores therefore we designed it in accordance with these cpus., to us. we have done are utter most best and have ACEHVIED what we wanted,,, but to the end user.. they call it a incompatible shit system wen we nvr had the chance to even compensate for these newer cores altho we tried to make it as future proof as we could
