1600x1200, everything on max, 2xTRAA 16xAF soft shadows disabled.

FPS:
Min: 41
Average: 70
Max: 185

FPS Dist:
0% below 25
0% between 25 and 40
100% above 40

7800GTs running at 469/1.15 and 4200+ x2 running at 2.42.

Awesome results. Two 7800GTs in SLI is what I was considering for my next PC build (when I get money that is). Good to know that I can play F.E.A.R. relatively well with a setup like that.

Rig:
DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR
Bios 6/23/2005-3
Athlon64 x2 4200+
Zalman CNPS7000B-CU
4x512MB Corsair XMS TWINX1024-4000PT
1x 36 Gig SATA Raptor
1x 80 Gig SATA Maxtor
Plextor PX-716AL
2x BFG 7800GT OC SLi
Antec TruePower 2.0 TRUECONTROL II-550W PSU
Onboard Sound
Windows XP Pro SP 2

Hit 12856 in '05 -- still finding the sweet spot OC on the video cards and getting my x2 OC'd a bit more when I play with voltages and RAM timings.

How much does it affect the frames with Soft Shadows enabled?

Asking because I have yet to play this game and ordering second BFG 7800GT at end of week.

( soft shadows disabled.) What the point of the game then.

I remember seeing screenshots of soft shadows, they really looked shitty. Maybe I'll play the game later and see.

I was playing last night at 1920x1200 w/Soft Shadows and 4xAA (Yes it's possible to have both active if you know what you are doing) and it was actually just playable enough on my rig that it took me about 10 minutes to notice that I had all that crap still left on from when I was testing earlier (basically I was getting 18 to 25fps, which is not too bad in in singleplayer if you play "slow and steady" style instead of "run and gun" style.)

BTW, here are my results with everything maxed at 1920x1200 with no AA and no SS. This is on the rig in my sig (4400 X2 W/SLI 7800GTX)

go to C:\documents and settings\all users\shared documents\monolith\FEAR

edit the config file to 1280x1024. the game only nativly runs 4:3 resolutions, which is bullshit.

There is a fear configuration file you can edit to change the resolution. On my LCD though, 1280x1024 looked squished. As I recently learned, 1280x960 is the correct 4:3 aspect ratio.

thats cuase your monitor is 4:3 (youre running a 16x12 screen i think)

17 and 19" LCD's are 5:4

Ok, that may be true. I only heard it in reference to 20" and larger LCD's. I didn't even think about smaller LCD's being different. Now that you mention it, though you're right. My GF's 17" LCD native resolution is 1280x1024.

To set 1280x1024 as your resolution in FEAR, do the fallowing. This was taken from another thread on this forum.

Go to \Documents and Settings\All Users\[Shared] Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR and open settings.cfg in a test editor such as Notepad. Change the HXW values to these

"ScreenWidth" "1280"

"ScreenHeight" "1024"

Save and exit. Make sure to set all your image quality settings before you do this tweak because going into some of the menus will reset your resolution to a lower one. Simply set your settings in FEAR, do the .cfg tweak, and then reboot the game.
