its kinda hard shipping 10,000 consoles(well 9,700) all on the same date, so pepsi started early

no its not Mountain dew (which is owned by pepsi) had its own thing that was everytenminutes.com while pepsi and doritos had another contest that was "first to play" which i think was only in canada

Yep... only in canada. Lot less winners, and in started alot later than every10minutes... trade off being they got their systems a full week early instead of 4 days.

I tried everytenminutes, multiple times. Sigh

I even try Hypothermia + donation drives, lottery tickets, casinos, russian roulette. NOTHING.

Oh well, Karma I guess. (glad my name's not Earl).

You might find reading the The previous day's post (Wednesday Nov 16, 2005 on http://softlife.blogspot.com) where I clearly state that the TSOP found of my specific motherboard was actually a Hynix HY27US08281A. I then listed the some of the features of that particular chip.

I use the word TSOP to describe the chip, much like I would use CPU and CMOS as generic descriptions of those chips functions - Do I really need to refer to it by the manufacturer's arbitrary product code throughout my article?

And since it it VERY LIKELY that multiple chip manufacturers and different chips were used to perform the function of holding the bootstrap code on the Xbox360....- not just the HY27US08281A which I found on my motherboard.... it would be STUPID to use anything but the generic chip name (in this case TSOP) when writing the article.

Do you also roll your eyes when someone uses the term "CPU"?

TSOP doesn't discribe the chips function, where as terms like Boot-Rom or Boot-Flash do. We don't call P4s or Athlons the computer's LGA775 or PGA939 do we?

I never said that the term TSOP describes it's "function". I said that I used the term "TSOP" to describe the chip.

The case remains that the Hynix HY27US08281A is a TSOP. Your pedantics will not change this.

If I were talking about a computer's CMOS, would you know what I was refering to? Or would you perfer me use the descriptor of "date, time and configuration storage device" when writing an article....? Would you bother posting your pedantics that the term CMOS only refers to the package and should never be used in tech manuals?

exactly my point. in case you missed that, i'll repeate it again: that is exactly my point.

We can generalize it to the term CPU. When I do so, you would immediately know what part on the motherboard hardware I was refering to. Same as BIOS, CMOS, and in the case of the Xbox the TSOP.

Have you EVER read any xbox related material? have you ever worked on any xbox systems? have you ever programmed any IC's on the XBOX????
have you ever flashed an Xbox bios? have you ever rebuilt a LPC? tapped an LDT?

When I write about the Xbox motherboard, I am writing to people who INHERENTLY know what I'm refering to when I talk about flashing the TSOP.
They dont expect me to have to list all 500 different possible makes and models.

The post was on my blog. The post was targetted to people who are interested in the Xbox360. I FULLY explained that the TSOP on my particular motherboard was a Hynix HY27US08281A. But because that chip maker and model will vary on other Xbox motherboards, I used the generic term TSOP for the rest of the blog.

But you seem to have totally ignored that I did this. You posted here that I didn't seem to understand what the term TSOP meant, that I was using it like that was the chip's name.

quite from my blog:

"...Looks like there is a Hynix TSOP on my mobo...."

then in the next paragraph....

"...The HYNIX HY27US08281A series is a 16Mx8bit with spare 4M bit capacity.

I then proceeded to use the term TSOP for the rest of the articles as a generic term.

why did you ignore the fact that I did this when you posted here that "... the guy was using the word TSOP like it was the name of the chip"?

I can think of only one reason
 
It's not worth getting so worked up on one little discrepancy. What will you get out of winning? Also, OP has bad spelling, "their," not "there." :D

stop complaining, i got what he ment because i have worked on xboxs before, hes doing us a favor buy opening a 400 dollar console and showing us the inside and voiding the warrenty so if it breaks tomorrow hes screwed, i enjoyed his posts and website, why you have to crap on him and the time he spent writing it up, if anything you could have crapped on his site in a little nicer way like "oh he used the term TSOP incorrectly" but no you have to be very rude while you do it.

edit: and yes i do have bad spelling :p im lazy, if you can read it its good enough for me :p

i stopped complaining a while ago.. as i stated earlier.. i remember saying "it's pointless to keep on arguing about this"

i wasn't tryign to be rude either.. guess you guys took it the wrong way.. no one would care in gen may :(

i understood what he was saying.. and his reasoning.. which was fine...

i still stand by what i said before though.. but it really doesn't matter.. it's stupid to keep arguing..
