so i recently uninstalled Bioshock, but i wanted to get rid of the SecuROM stuff that comes along with the game, so i followed the instructions shown in this website
(http://www.gamingbob.com/2007/08/23/bioshock-installs-rootkit-including-demo/)

but there are some files that i cannot delete with this process, those files are in the securom directory Docs and Settings\Admin\AppData\Securom. Namely :

ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρϴϱЄϱЃϵϳЅ 5kb
ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρЂϻϵЉЃϵϳЅ 1kb

wierd stuff indeed, so how can i delete those files?

Have you tried one of those delete whatever you want programs.

i´ve only used Gipo@MoveOnBoot Utility and i keep getting an error message saying that the file is either locked or does not exist so no file could be deleted, and that is running that program under the Admin account. I could format my drive and reinstall windoze, but i ´ve recently done that :p

I emailed secuROM shortly after Bioshock was released asking for instructions on how to remove it and they sent me an email back with an exe, you might want to try the same thing. They didn't mention if it removes *all* files and reg keys or not though.

hmm... an exe... so could you check if the following directory is still in your system:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SecuROM\UserData

those files are hidden btw

Sorry I have no plans to uninstall it yet, I emailed secuROM primarily to see what their response would be, I will use it once I've played through bioshock again.

What's wrong with SecuRom? Pretty much everything.

Does it prevent people from pirating games? No.
What is it inteded for? To prevent people from pirating games.

The fact it installed itself as a service, that if i remember correctly, is set to always run on reboot is what annoys me though. Just because people are walking around with 4 gigs of ram doesnt give every program the right to startup on boot. It may not take any resources, but that's not the point, its "just one more" program right? It's funny, because Punkbuster is doing the same thing, when installed with a game, it installs 1 or 2 services that start up automatically.

Non-essential programs that run on reboot, which have no specific function when the programs they're tied to arent running are useless as far as I'm concerned. When it offers no normal means to uninstall it, and when the program that installed it in the first place doesnt uninstall it when you uninstall them adds to my dislike. And when it tries to use techniques to prevent itself from being manually deleted really makes me hate it.

You learn at a young age if you're careless when using your system it becomes sluggish. Why? Due to all the shit that starts up/installs itself that ultimately isnt needed. So you learn to tweak a bit, and remove what isnt needed. I guess thats basically what it stems from for me.

Sony got nipped in the butt for previously using rootkit techniques. Now they're trying the next best thing. I had no problem when SecuRom was just used on the disk level to prevent normal burners from copying protected disks. But not this BS

I tried that program in Vista x64 and still couldn't delete it. :(
Oh well I am getting a new hard drive for OS soon so I will finish BioShock and not install again, what a waste.

Oh and I have these files also from my previous install of Vista in Windows.old and still cannot delete them, so if you remove the program, they stay behind.

and this is why I refuse to buy any game with draconian copy protection.

yeah, unfortunately those sorts of copy protection are starting to catch up!! how knows maybe it`s the future! that would really suck!!
