Lian Li case closest in style to PC-X900

Agree on the need for 1 x 5.25 bay for a Blu-Ray burner. I like otherwise being able to remove any and all drive bays. As for securing SSD's I have never bothered, I can't see wasting more than a tie wrap to secure one.

Z77 with PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter and Samsung 950 Pro

I have read of mixed success using the setup noted in my thread title and various versions of Windows (I am currently sticking with Windows 7 x64). Some report the 950 using an PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter in various Z77 boards will boot Windows, some say there will be a delay, some have...

Lian Li case closest in style to PC-X900

No, I had heard of them, but never looked at their website, so thank you. Even more high dollar than what I was considering/wanting, thanks again! ;) Certainly worth considering, but can anyone with Lian Li familiarity answer my primary question from the original post? Thanks!

Lian Li case closest in style to PC-X900

The PC-X900 was a high dollar case introduced by Lian Li about 5 years or so ago. I have been trying to find another one, but no luck. It still appears on Lian Li's site, FWIW, but nobody has one that I can find. This was a windowed case with very thick aluminum construction, much more solid...

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

When you setup a 950 Pro M.2, should you over-allocate when creating partitions? Or is that not necessary with its collection system?

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

That is all great information, thanks so much Dan! I know after this much time around here that you guys do not give out Editor's Choice awards for grins and giggles, so there had to be good reason. Out of nothing but curiosity - what would be the "pretty expensive" motherboard that one would...

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

I was ready to order an ASUS SABERTOOTH Z170 MARK 1 which is a HardOCP Editor's Choice, but after reading the full review, the memory clocking slowness/limitation, the non-Intel NIC's, and the little outboard Thermal Armor fan have me turned off the most. I know that the Intel 750 AIC would...

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

That is good to know. I had known of ASRock as a second tier product line when they were wholly owned by ASUS.

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

Yes, you (and the other posts here) have helped a lot, a whole lot, thank you! I am totally a non-gamer, so single GPU would be my use, which was one reason that I was leaning toward the Supermicro board. I could even go with integrated GPU for that matter. I felt that Supermicro might...

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

Thanks. Are the 950 Pro's better or just easier to use than Intel 750's, or is the main advantage the fact that they are fully bootable?

Z170 motherboards and M.2 slot questions

Considering an upgrade from Sandy Bridge, and a bit confused about Z170 motherboards and their M.2 slots. Considering a Supermicro CZ7170-SQ board which, AFAIK has an M Key M.2 slot which does PCIe 3.0 x4 mode, not SATA mode, which is much better correct? If the above is correct, will any new...

    Memtest86+ 4.20 ECC reporting

I have accepted this as being normal. The setup obviously supports ECC. This started as a question related to setup of my storage server. It is not fully a memory, CPU or Mobo question, so if a mod feels this belongs elsewhere, please move or delete it.

    Memtest86+ 4.20 ECC reporting

Yes, I toggled the ECC option to ON, but it still shows as OFF. My understanding is that the "turning it on" in Memtest just enables or disables logging of ECC errors, and does not actually turn on the ECC itself. The ECC should be operational, but I would like to verify it. This would not be...

    Memtest86+ 4.20 ECC reporting

I am just testing some new server components, including a Supermicro X9SCL board, some Kingston Unbuffered ECC memory and a Xeon CPU, which together should fully support the ECC memory. Running a boot disk of the current Memtest86+ 4.20 (and some old versions also), the screen reports ECC as...
