While I like techpowerup, it's not complete. So, still not the silver bullet. So, I'd say use a curator like UFD for fuller coverage... and I like it because I can play it in my ear while doing other things (usually at 1.7 speed).

Correct.... so visit a whole bunch of different sites, many, because you don't know which ones will have have "this or that". But, since you "went there", list the sites you use please.

I listen to UFD Hot News. IMHO, probably one of the shortest tech news summaries. However, if you all know of something better, I'm always willing to move on to something better.

cjcox replied to the thread Opinion: Could Broadcom buy Intel.
Yeah, they do have "something" with their iGPU/QSV and their memory controllers, but compute wise, they gave up with the super hot + clock work and utilizing "crap cores". Reminds me a whole lot of the Netburst era. Warning: Intel recovered...

No. AMD announced it's biggest marketshare (against Intel primarily) in long time, in fact, I don't think it's been higher. But still, not even half, not even a third of the markets.

It's the "add" (or in some cases the "ad"). As someone who has been around for awhile, change. Change is always change. But again, a year from now, it won't matter, everyone will have new shiny machines with Windows 11.

Obviously people can run unsupported and without security and driver updates for as long as they wish. You are correct.

Same ole song, "Heck no, we won't go!!" You don't have a choice, different song in a year.

You may "hate monopolies", but companies usually do not want to be regulated as one. Nvidia will "provide the loan" to keep the competitor alive, if that's what it takes IMHO (but we'll see, I mean it could cost Nvidia billions if they are found...
  • cjcox
IMHO, Nvidia has to have something "real" with regards to competition. If not AMD, it will become Intel. Maybe MSI is truly betting on the latter (?)

Hee hee.... sort of reminds you of pre-Proton (Steamdeck) days of not having many (Windows) games in Linux. I'm sure everyone is "right on this", getting their games ready for Snapdragon X. (of course, it does depend on Microsoft's commitment...

True, but maybe "less true" in today's "small world". I know that if you're not afraid to deal with region issues, you often get certain content when you go "outside" your own country. Many years ago, I did that to get "Bringing Up Baby" (the...

To me, it's hard to predict "what will last". I mean, I don't like disco, it was a short lived fad. I think rap is far worse, yet... here we are. Doesn't make sense to me. Almost random.

I don't think the idea is to "cease brain activity", those that are trying to protect "our ground" realize that you also have to ensure longer term use. However, I know of lots of companies that appreciate what you just said.
  • cjcox
Me too. I'm not ready to expose my belly for free for everyone. Not going there. And IMHO, those that "give in" the "those with our best interests at heart", well, it may sound like it's a good thing... but maybe it isn't. Be careful not to...

But, by that (somewhat flawed) argument, CDs/DVDs/Blurays must come into "itchy-ness" at some point. Regardless. I've got a frame grabber.... there is a "solution" to streaming madness and it's built-in "lack of reliability". I strictly have...
  • cjcox
Yeah, the world is changing. If we can skip the weird return to easily damaged vinyl, people today don't have "cd" players, and more and more don't have "blu-ray" players (and DVD, etc.). I still have a lot of "give away" CDs (music), just...

People spending 2-3x "old school pricing" to buy vinyl "records" might preview where this all "goes" in the long run. We'll see.
