It's amazing that this is still discussed. Like some people are saying, LCD's don't use refresh rates like CRT's, they use pixel response times. It doesn't matter what Windows shows as your refresh rate on an LCD, it's a meaningless number. I always laugh when I see people tinkering with the...
I saw the 42" Westy at Best Buy hooked up to a Toshiba HD-DVD player.
That was the most amazing picture I've ever seen on a TV. It was like looking through a window at real life action. I could be very happy with one of those.
I'm wondering if that's about as good as it gets for a while or...
The Samsung looks bigger in that picture but up close the 20.1" widescreen is huge.
When I visit my son and use his 19" LCD for a few days, I can't wait to get back to my Dell 2005FPW. The widescreen is so much more natural. Plus, like they said, the dot pitch on a 19" LCD is kind of high...
I use a Dell 2005FPW and I've never seen a ghosting effect on anything. Right now I'm playing Elder Scrolls IV at 1680x1050 and to me it looks perfect. Beautiful colors, smooth graphics, I couldn't be happier. Sure, my monitor has the same bleeding in the corners like everyone else's, although...
Cool post.
I've had my 2005FPW for almost a year now and I just love the crap out of this thing. You can only see the bleeding if the screen is black and the room is dark anyways. I always noticed that I could change the level of bleeding just by pushing on the lcd screen and the frame...
How about the name of the wallpaper then. It has to be a jpg or bmp I guess.
We could probably track the file down on Google.
Also, I hope you don't live in an earthquake zone. As much as that thing costs, I'd bolt it to the desk.
I was at Best Buy a while back and they had a Colts game live on one of the new Sony SXRD 50" big screens. They basically had an antenna hooked up to the back of that thing, getting the HD signal through the air. It had the sharpest picture I've ever seen on a TV.
I'm not even sure what...
Same here. I've had my 2005FPW for a few months and I can't stand to look at any other LCD, especially if it's not wide screen.
The 1905FP is really nice if you can get one below $250, I got one for my 8 year old son.
The 2001FP just looks too tall and square compared to a 2005FPW, like...
I've never turned off the speed control. I can see the fan spin up and down using the Intel utility but I can't really hear any sound difference, which is really nice compared to the stock Intel fan/heatsink.
I'm still having problems with high temps though. It cooled off a couple of degrees...
I use the Nexus PHT-7750. Clips right in like the stock Intel fan/heatsink without having to remove the motherboard.
Not much of a temp change but this thing is totally silent even at full spin. The stock Intel fan can get pretty loud when it's spinning fast.

I just bought one for my 8 year old boy and got the exact same Samsung panel. $254. No bad pixels luckily.
It's weird looking at a 19" lcd after using my 2005FPW for a few months. The 1905FP seems too tall, I like the shorter and wider panel on my 2005FPW.
The colors are great on the 1905...
I noticed on mine that I can actually adjust the backlight level by pushing on the panel itself, especially in the corners. I can also adjust it by flexing and squeezing the frame around the panel (lightly of course). It almost seems like the frame doesn't fit around the lcd panel correctly...
I finally got my Nexus PHT-7750 cooler. The noise from the stock Intel fan/heatsink was driving me nuts. Also, I wanted a cooler that didn't require removing my motherboard to install. I have an Intel P4 550 cpu with an Intel D915PBL board in an Antec Sonata case, two SATA drives and an ATI X700...
I switched from a 19" CRT to the Dell 2005FPW. I could never go back.
Over the few weeks that I've used it, I noticed a little backlighting in two of the corners, but it's nothing I'd complain about. The screen has to be black to even see it.
I also did some temporary time with a Viewsonic...
It seems to work well on my 2005fpw. I play Sacred, which only runs at 1024x768, and it looks amazing. The 2005 stretches the picture out to full screen but it's still razor sharp and you can't really notice that it's being stretched. Looks much better than on my old 19" CRT.
Games don't run...
Good idea. The stock Intel fan can drive you crazy. Here's a couple of other options.
I'm going to try the Nexus PHT-7750. It clips in using the standard mounting holes as opposed to using a mounting bracket under the motherboard.
I just wish it would ship already...
The x700 pro will work just fine. I have the x600 pro and it works great.
Dell includes a cd with the 2005fpw that adds the 1680x1050 resolution to windows.
I was worried about it, but I play Sacred on this baby at 1024x768 (the only resolution the game runs at) and it looks great. I guess it stretches out the picture but it looks perfect to me.
Unless you have a beefy machine and video card, it's tough to run games at the native resolution on...
I have the same board and chip with the stock fan/heatsink and an ATI AIW X600 Pro in an Antec Sonata case. I've never seen my cpu get that hot. Mid 60's tops running Doom3.
You must have an airflow problem somewhere or like they said, the heatsink isn't on right. I just bought one of these...
I also found this cooler, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7. Quiet, bolt on, cheap.
At least it has good reviews.
http://www.insanetek.com/index.php?page=arcticcf7
Yeah, I do live in Phoenix. Our winters are like your summers and our summers are like Hell.
I try to keep my place cool though. I do need a new CPU fan/heatsink, the stock Intel doesn't cut it during high loads.
The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 looks good, no motherboard removal necessary...
Yep, that's why you guys run so cool.
Out of the box, the Sonata doesn't really deal well with the newest cpu's, and I only have a P4 550 running at 3.4ghz. Imagine the faster chips.
Time to add some quiet fans.
I want a better cpu fan/heatsink for my Intel 550 chip in my Antec Sonata case. Something quiet preferably.
The Zalman 7000 series coolers and the iXtrema 120mm Copper Socket look great but I don't really feel like yanking out my motherboard to install it.
The Nexus PHT-7750 looks like it can...
True, that's why I don't worry too much about my case temp. I have no clue where that number comes from.
I do worry about my cpu temp though, and my loud cpu fan reminds me of it every time I play a game.
I'm trying to find a good quiet cpu fan/heatsink for a socket 775 without having to yank...
My Sonata has the same problems but it gets even hotter. My Intel P4 550 can get close to 70'C at full load. My case temp gets close to 50'C at full load.
I'm going to get another 120mm fan for the front of the case to help a little. The 120mm fan at the back of the case seems to blow alot of...
If you're worried about colors, don't get a TN monitor. There is a visible difference between 6+2 and 8 bit per pixel color.
The 2005FPW problems are old news. Mine is amazing. Even a 2001FP would be a good choice.
If you mostly played games, then you'd want a TN monitor.
That's funny, my VP912B had the same backlight problem right at the top middle of the screen. You could see there was a really bright white light source behind there.
Mine had a stuck blue pixel, you could barely see it and only on a dark background.
I don't think I could tolerate a bad pixel...
I agree. Some people blew the backlight thing out of proportion.
Some of the pictures posted here definitely show backlight problems, any monitor can have it if it's not put together properly. Alot of the pictures looked like normal reflections on the panel. In a dark room with a black...
I wouldn't put too much weight in the response time.
That's a TN panel which has 6+2 bit per pixel color. A true 8 bit panel will have
much better color blending.
Also, 1280x1024 on a 19" lcd gives you a really high dot pitch which makes the screendoor effect more pronounced. You can see...
Well, I've put just about every color as a solid background on my screen using the Windows Marquee screen saver. I honestly can't find one bad or even stuck pixel on this thing. I'm lucky I guess.
My Viewsonic VP912B did have one pixel that was stuck on blue. You could only see it on a black...
Good choice.
My order said it would take 3 weeks but I had it within 5 days using their free shipping, which turned out to be UPS.
As far as dot pitch, the smaller the better. Both of these Dell 20" monitors are in the .25x range. 19" LCD's are the worst since they run at 1280x1024, which...
