How does Asus survive with such terrible RMA service?

I can't say I'm having much luck with Asus RMA's either. Sent a board back last month, finally got returned today and I'm greeted by a board that has a broken and tore copper trace/wire torn right out the PCB on the back and the VRMs are blown/budging/leaking too. Needless to say the board is...

    Can't overclock 6970

And exactly how is it way over normal? My 6970 easily runs in the high 80's under load, normally at 88-89C and under heavy GPGPU computing temps average ~95 easily. In the [H] review of the 6970 theres was at 89C under load too. Reason? AMD's heatsink design is a bag of shit.

Bioses edited by me in RBE = BSOD???

You can't edit clock speeds in the BIOS on 69XX cards. The RBE team have mentioned it a number of times over there. There is some kind of protection in the drivers which stops custom BIOSes with changed clock speeds from booting. You can changes voltage is believe, and do the 6950 to 6970...

I installed my processor in the wrong position

That is LGA1155. If you look at the top left corner you can see what appears to be the plastic notch snapped off and next to the pins in the socket itself. Some serious force must have been going on right there.

BIOS and Core Temp readings WAY off, and 90C under load!!??

I haven't found a way to lower my load Vcore without also lowering my idle vCore, but my 2600k happily runs at 1.6GHz @ 0.800v under idle so i'd say you may have some headroom to go lower.

Asus P8P67 Pro and UEFI booting

Hi all, I'm having a few problems with a new Sandybridge systems i'm putting together at the moment, mainly related to the hard drive and what seems a lack of UEFI boot support from the EFI BIOS. So far i've tried just about every google result to get windows 7 x64 to install in EFI mode with...

How do new video cards play wow?

As people have made it clear in here, WoW is CPU limited. Getting a very highend GPU really won't give many gains here. WoW being CPU limited is something i was able to put to the test just a few days ago. My computer and a housemates sit next to each other. The GPUs are largely the same. I...

Brief loud screech from video card

I have exactly the same problem. Always had it ever since i got my 8800GTX 18 months ago, not it's not like it's dust or anything. The card makes no other unexpected sound when it's running, only a screech on shut down, exactly as you describe. I have an XFX 8800GTX with an Antec Truepower...

What do I need to upgrade in order to play WoW (BC/WotLK) Maxed?

And the shadows cause a massive drop in frame rate, which is the reason why people get low frame rates, it's not for any other reason and people do not need to reformat over it. The guy asked what he needs to have to run at full details. Not full details with the most demand features turned...

What do I need to upgrade in order to play WoW (BC/WotLK) Maxed?

WoW isn't as CPU limited as you might think. I run a rather old Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (@ 2.3GHz) with 4GB ram and a Geforce 8800GTX (621/1620/1026). I run WoW at 1920*1200 with all ingame settings at max and with 8x CSAA (transparency AA on multisampling). WotLK runs largely ok for me except...

Moving from the Red to the Green team: Need advice

Since nvidias AF has been at a level equal to, if not greater than ATI's HQAF for some time, it seems weird that you have issues. Make sure you have set the sewttings that on 'quality' to 'high quality' (can't for the life of me remember what setting this falls under now, but you'll find it...

Two G80's in SLI running 1GHz core...

The biggest problem i see with such a setup is the 256MB of video memory. That could be a real issue in any new game with high texture detail or once AA is turned on.

    ATI Radeon 3800 X 4 = Fyre Them Up!

    Hellgate: London DX10 vs. DX9 Gaming Experience @ [H]

Good read, but could i ask why the 8800 GTX clock speeds are always listed as something random in these reviews. In the WIC DX10 review, the LOTOR DX10 review and now the HL DX10 the GTX is listed as 3 different clock speeds. Wouldn't it make sence to use a standard GTX or are you just listed it...

Guess AMD's Q2 loss that will be announced on Thursday

On the cash front it has me wondering. They lost $600 million but they gained $400 million in assets. How does that happen then? Another big loan?

Does abundance of RAM offset lack of GPU memory (in gaming)?

No, it wont make up for it. Your system memory is much much slower and takes much much longer to access than the local GPU memory, so it wont matter how much system RAM you have, you'll still take the hit from the lack of GPU memory.

Need a soundcard for Logitech Z-5450 5.1 Digital

Just because it doesnt encode to DD or DTS doesnt mean its basic stereo sound either. I dont use optical out on a creative card myself, but just the 3.5mm digital out on my Audigy 2 and in any game thats uses 3D audio or EAX i get full surround sound, and i dont see why that wouldnt be true of...

    Where are the 8800 reviews?

1024*768? Yeah, you'll be lucky to see any screenshots of that. I mean, who in their right mind is going to buy a £480/$650 graphics card to play at 1024*768 regardless of 16x AA?

8800GTX listed in Finland (649 euro)

Its becuase the INQ are doing what everyone does. They take the UK price INCLUDING 17.5% sales tax then say 'OMG its $950!' No, take the sale tax off before you start saying its X Y and Z in other countries. Besides, my 7800GTX 256 last year cost me £430 at launch. £500 for a G80 isnt really...

    8800 GTX/GTS preview/review

If these are the same 30A figures that were being talked about before then it means 30A are required for the whole system, not just the video card. And yes, whatever load of that is for the video card will be split over the 2 connectors no doubt.

    Introduction to Triple Buffering

Your monitor is almost certainly running at 75Hz, not 120Hz. Theres hardly any lcds on the market that run at more than 75Hz. Its probabaly just windows veing stupid and thinking your lcd can do something it cannot. All other programs are likely to be just reading the setting from windows, not...

Any online retailer that will take an LCD back if it has a dead pixel?

They are rare but it would still have a high impact on costs if every single LCD had to be dead pixel free. My Dell 2405FPW has none...my Nintendo DS has a dead pixel though :(

Need some thoughts on the XP-120

Need some thoughts on the XP-120

You couldnt be more wrong. Infact, high airflow does almost nothing at all for the XP-120. I have been using an XP-120 for over a year with a 125CFM fan on it. Even if i turn the fan from 12v to 7v my CPU temps go up by 1C. Clearly, once yours pushing more than about 75-80CFM into the XP-120...

    Overclocking woes

This is something ive been menaing to post about for ages :p A month or two ago i took my system apart to clean the dust out, since it was getting hot here. Ever since then i can barely overclock at all. I have an X2 4400+, 2GB of Corsair PC3200XL memory (4*512MB sticks, yes i know), DFI...

    First Overclock, Temperatur problems

Im not sure what the max temp a conroe can take it, but once your getting much over 50C your gettiing too hot. 55C really is the max you'd want to run at under full load. You'll need better cooling before you push anymore, if anything you may want to back off alittle till you do so.

    Amperage Info directly from ATI

He is full of it. A Radeon 1900XTX draws 120 watts in gaming. OC'ed will use more yes, but even 2 stock would barely be touching 24A from the 12v, lets alone one. They do use alot more than the 7900GTX does, but if someone at ATI is telling you it uses 24A per card then they deserve to be fired...

    Amperage Info directly from ATI

The XTX wouldnt need 24 amps on teh 12v rail. That would be 288 watts alone, plus the other its uses pushing it over 300w. An X1900 anything doesnt need 300w of power (and thats triple the 7900 GTX uses).

Computer SUPER loud, NB @ 7200RPM

Does your board have steting in the BIOS for fan speeds? On my DFI i can set speeds in the BIOS for the NB fan, i set a speed i wnat it to turn off at (like 30C) and a temp i want it on a full speed (50C) and the board just adjust the fan speed depending on the temp. Most the time its rarely...

    WoW player's video card

Maybe it just me but im not seeing this insane detail, infact the ground/wall textures are clearly of low res and there isnt alot of detail to them at all. Thats no more (perhaps even less) detailed than WoW is and much less detailed then other games.

    Digital outs

The only thing that should output in stereo (or not at all) over digital on an Audigy is DVD-Audio (not to be confused with DD5.1/DTS). Everything else will either output in multi channel or you can use the card to up mix it to multi channel if its a stereo source. Even the live could upmix...

Next Gen (DX10) GPUs to require seperate PSU!?!

I dunno, to me the 300W figure seems very far fetched. In the past few gens both ATi and Nvidia have been able to increase performance by 50-100% without increasing power usage at all (or much anyway). While DX10 cards are going to be alot more complex and a higher power usage is to be expected...
