Thank you for the replies. I understand battery replacements, but for the most part I run my laptop from it's power cord without the battery installed. I came up with the 7 year number because thats what I want out of a computer. I seem to skip a cycle in terms of computer upgrading, and I...
I am in the market for a new laptop and I want something that will last at the minimum, 7 years. I hold onto my equipment for quite some time so durability is a must.
What laptops offer the longest warranties? Has technology gotten past the problem with micro fractures in solder? Ever since...
Well as far as the overclock, it depends on what I really need. I want to play planetside 2, and I have actually been able to play a little with my e4300 clocked at 2.5. As for the Xeon X3220 I had never heard of it as I was going off the list that is supported for my motherboard. It's very...
Thanks for the replies, I will definitely stick with the Q6600. Just picked up a Coolermaster 212 Pro. Now i just need to find a deal sub $55 on the processor. I should be good for a couple more years for what I do.
My motherboard is 1333 FSB, the chip I want is Q8300 which is rated at 1333 FSB. Since at it's default CPU it's already at the max FSB that my motherboard can handle will I not be able to over clock it? Where if I get the Q6600 it has a standard of 1066 FSB (I think) which would get more room...
planetside 2, I know i'll get flamed for that one, because even top end computers can't run it well. I just know optimization is on the way and someday i hope I can play it on low settings.
I did some more research on Dual Core Ebay prices. These are from completed listings in the last month.
Q6600 $60-$80
Q6700 $80-$95
E6850 3.0GHZ 4MB L2 DUAL 65nm $29-$40
E8300 2.83GHZ 6MB L2 DUAL 45nm - $45-$60
E8400 3.0GHZ 6MB DUAL 45nm - $40-$80
E8500 3.16GHZ 6MB DUAL 45nm - $50-60...
My brain just is not that technologically advanced. I mean I understand everything except how to up the FSB chip with fractional strap.
You make a good point, with a simple over clock I could get the q6600 for around $60-$80 on ebay.
I am almost thinking of a dual core E6850 3.0Ghz, they...
I have GA-965P-DS3 (rev 3.3) motherboard
I currently have a core 2 E4300 that has proven to run too slow for some CPU intense games.
Here is the research i've done on ebay sold listings for quad core CPU's. Is there anything that really sets one apart or should I get go for the cheaper ones...
I hear the HD 7770 is the best for low power, but I was told it would not be backwards compatible for my PCI Express 1.x... Yes I still have the same computer from 2007 and yes I still play games, so if anyone has another low power idea, I would love to hear it!
Gtx 460 was my first choice...
I am currently running a core 2 duo E4300. On a GA-965P-DS3 motherboard. I think I bought this system in 2007, still running strong, but I could use a little more umph in the processor department. I know this mobo does quad core, but it gets confusing with all the different types.
Thanks
I hooked up the 12v fan to a 12v AC DC adapter and plugged her in. I also cut another opening above the memory for a place for the air to enter in.
When gaming my GPU temp is a max of 72c!!! Before this fan modification I was running 101c!!!
CPU runs 15c cooler too. I wish I had done...
I used a drimel to cut an opening where the GPU is and i'm attempting to place a fan over the opening. (I should have just cut this opening to access the GPU in the first place) WAY EASIER than taking this computer fully apart.
Attaching it shouldn't be a problem with the right screws and...
It's scary to think how hot this computer got! I never worried about it because it was under a 3 year warranty :) Now that I am taking it apart it's crazy. I left the keyboard out and the plastic just above where the GPU would sit got so hot I would burn myself...ON THE PLASTIC. I am thinking...
It turns out I forgot to hook up that switch that tells if the monitor is closed. So it turns out.. IT WORKED !!! HAHA
I cooked the motherboard so hot with the heat gun, that it melted some plastic on the backside of the motherboard and was smoking! 6 minutes on the high 1000F setting with...
I managed to get the case off, you have to pop off the speaker panel cover from the sides and can do this with your hands but its pretty hard. I spent hours dismantling this thing to get acess to the graphics card. Used the heat gun on it, and well I think i completely fried the graphics card...
There are 112 pages here, I am having trouble locating directions on how to remove the laptop case. I have removed all screws, it seems it is stuck in the middle of the keyboard, any ideas what its snagged on or how to fully remove the case?
Thanks!
So now that Everex is out of business and they took down their website, where could I find a driver for the sound card? Does anyone know what sound card it is?
Thanks! We just installed windows 7, 64 bit on this.
Yes thats the max res, but I like to multi client games, so I run things lower sometimes. I am already overcloking it to 2ghz, and could easily go higher with a better heatsink.
Unfortunately the prices right now on GTS 250 and HD 5770 are too high to make any jumps. I know that the GTS 250 would be better for my computer at this moment but it's $90-$110 (I missed all the deals on black friday) And the HD 5770 is $140ish, way overpriced IMO.
If I got the 5770 yes...
Thanks for the answers, I suppose I could boost it up to 700mhz and bring it near the other superclocked cards. I just read some pretty bad reviews on the EVGA one though. I don't see how that could be? /shrug
I am looking at a GTS 250, and I notice for the most part it's like 738 core clock speed, however the cheaper ones have lower clock speeds. Why would it be lower clock speed if they all use the same chip? Do they use chips that failed at higher speeds?
For example the EVGA...
Usually when I run 2 clients of a game on 1 computer I disable shadows. What is more important in a video card for this job? Texture fill rate? Processor speed? Video card memory?
What say you?
Thanks!
Well I have been observing my CPU while gaming and it's around 65%, so the bottleneck is definitely the video card here. And you're right 25% increase would be lame, i'd love to double my performance :) I think a GT240 just might do that eh?
Here is my system
1.8 GHz E4300 C2D
4GB Patriot
7900 GS
GA-965P-DS3
I'm finding with modern games i'm having some trouble mostly due to the GPU. What video card would you recommend on my system?
Is PCI-E 2.0 backwards compatible with my PCI-E 1 slot? At what point will there be a...
Xeons make better servers than core 2 duo? Or did this question already get answered too haha. I'd love to make it into a cheap gaming system but the cheapest mobo I found on newegg for xeon was $170!!!
