Wow I'm impressed and surprised by the power there, nice. Maybe I'm weird but upon reading the specs I have immediately ruled out any Xeon-D motherboard that doesn't have SFP+. But I am really looking forward to joining the Xeon D club one day hopefully soon.

I just got an Ubuntu 16.04 VM set up myself, enabled native ZFS w/ pass thru to an HBA, setup a 6TB pool and installed Crashplan. In the early stages of testing for viability as a long term archive-offload box for the cold (stale) data from my main storage box. So far so good!
